We also discussed the importance of making the Port of Santos a Sister Port to Port Miami due to the fact that Port of Santos is the busiest container port in Latin America.

The Delegation also met with representatives from the Brazilian Beef Export Association to discuss opportunities once protocol is cleared for Brazil. To use our Port as the main location for distributing to the rest of the United States. Also, export of hides (leather) was discussed.

We also met with Daniel Ribeiro and Joseph Reiner who are looking to export Brazilian Coffee to Miami through the Port of Miami. Conversations are underway and we hope to have a new business coming to Miami.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY DELEGATION VISITS ASUNCION, PARAGUAY
Meeting with Mayor of Asuncion, Paraguay, President of Airport, President of Ports and Minister of Industry & Commerce in Asunsion
On Wednesday, November 6, 2019, As Vice Chairman of Tourism and the Ports Committee, Commissioner Souto lead a delegation from Miami-Dade County that included the Director of Port Miami Juan Kuryla, Director of Airport Lester Sola and Allan Rosenbaum Director of the Institute for Public Management and Community Service of FIU to Asunción, Paraguay as we met with the Mayor of Asunción Mario Anibal Ferreiro Sanabria. We also met with Airport President Edgar Alberto Melgarejo Ginard, Port President Romon C. Retamozo and Minister of Industry & Commerce Liz Cramer an Alumni of FIU. The meeting was based on how to establish a Sister Airport and Sister Port agreement in order to make our business relationship stronger.

Another item that was discussed during the meeting was to establish a direct flight from Miami to Asunción which will help not only the passenger section but the cargo section for import and export side. They are also very interested in the Pre-Clerance program like the one that was established between Miami and Brazil when it comes to cargo. In regards to the Port we will start a Sister Port agreement which will improve the relation between the two ports and improve the cargo import and export industry.

The opportunity to increase business and augment our relations with Asuncion, Capital of Paraguay, which is an old Sister City of Miami-Dade County and the County of Paraguay, a very strategically located small but very important nation specifically as it relates to the depth of penetration of the Parana River in the heart of South America (Brazil, Bolivia, etc.) and the possibilities that it brings to the Port's business is something that we are pursuing.
