City Council Recognizes Contribution of Manufacturers
Manufacturing Day occurs the first Friday of October each year to celebrate modern manufacturing and to inspire future generations of manufacturers. Manufacturing Day gives manufacturers the opportunity to tell stories by showcasing their businesses in one coordinated effort. With more than 100 manufacturing companies located in the city, city council passed a proclamation on October 2 recognizing the importance of manufacturing to Commerce City. Commerce City's Oribi Manufacturing, a company that produces high performance composite components used by the U.S. Military, law enforcement, recreation, sporting and aerospace industries, was chosen to accept the proclamation on behalf of all manufacturing companies in the city. A representative from Manufacturer's EDGE, a manufacturing assistance center that supports manufacturers throughout the Metro Denver Area also attended.

Region's Competitive Attributes Presented to Site Selectors
The Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and economic development partners from throughout the region hosted nine site selection consultants during the Metro Denver Site Selection Conference, September 13-15. These consultants are key advisors to Fortune 1000 companies considering corporate relocations and expansions that would bring new jobs and capital investment to the metropolitan area. Commerce City's Economic Development Division participates in this annual event which has proven to be the most effective strategy for marketing the metropolitan region's attributes to site selectors.
The conference concluded with a breakfast panel discussion with the consultants as they shared their impressions of the metropolitan area and provided feedback on how the region compared to others. The site selectors unanimously praised the strong innovation and entrepreneurial climate that helps companies succeed in the region. They also noted the challenge of the region's low (2.5%) unemployment rate. While this would generally be viewed as a challenge for companies considering relocation or expansion into the region, they acknowledged the region has a unique ability to attract talent. This was attributed not only to the quality of life, but also the growing economy.
Economic Development staff foster relationships with participating site selectors. McLane Foodservice and Cummins Rocky Mountain are projects that resulted from site selector relationships.
