2016 Annual Conference - Save the Date!
The Federation's 2016 Annual Conference will take place on November 9 at the University of Toronto. This year's conference will focus on cities, and will feature a Big Thinking lecture by Julian Agyeman from Tufts University. Mark your calendars and visit our website for more information!

Federation co-sponsored reconciliation forum
On June 1 at Congress 2016, the Federation co-hosted Sharing the Land, Sharing a Future, a half-day public forum. The forum was attended by over 140 people and stimulated moving discussions about the role of government, and the humanities and social sciences in reconciliation.

Federation welcomes new President-Elect and one new board member
Following its Annual General Meeting in Calgary, Alberta, the Federation announced Guy Laforest as President-Elect, welcomed Tim Goddard as Director, Teaching and Learning, and acclaimed Cindy Blackstock as Director, Equity and Diversity for a second term.
Federation releases ASPP Report 2015-2016
The Federation has released a report on the activities of the Awards to Scholarly Publications Program (ASPP) for its 2015-2016 year. The full report is available here.

Thank you to all General Assembly representatives who participated at the Federation's 2016 Annual General Meeting, which took place at UCalgary during Congress 2016. Please remember to fill out your association form or your institution form.
Funding opportunities
The Federation would like to draw members' attention to a variety of excellent funding opportunities for participating in the celebration of Canada's 150th including at Congress 2017

 * SSHRC Connection Grants: ($7,000 to $25,000) to support initiatives organized by postsecondary institutions and scholars, and other outreach activities (up to $50,000). Next deadline: August 1, 2016. Federation members are strongly encouraged to link their proposals with Congress 2017 at Ryerson University.

 * Canada Council New Chapter grants: offering artists and organizations grants ($50,000 to $500,000) to support the creation and sharing of exceptional artistic and literary works. Next deadline is July 4, 2016. 

* Community Infrastructure Program funding: is providing an additional $150 million for institutions, to support the renovation, expansion or improvement of community and recreational infrastructure 

* Community Foundations of Canada funding: Community foundations in nearly every province are now inviting applications for local projects, (including soon the Toronto Foundation for special activities during Congress 2017)

Final Five SSHRC Storytellers announced
After 25 inspiring three-minute presentations, the 2016 Final Five Storytellers were announced on site at Congress 2016. How is SSHRC-funded research improving our lives and our world? Click here to see the excitement as SSHRC celebrates this year's winners!
Budget 2017 pre-budget consultation
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance launched on June 3 its pre-budget consultation process. The Federation is preparing a pre-budget brief and welcomes member input in advance of the August 5 deadline, addressed to Peter Severinson. Read the call for Canadians to share their priorities for 2017.
Federal sciences review process launch
The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, launched on June 13 a six-month independent review of federal funding for fundamental science. The panel-led review will assess the programs in place to support science in Canada under the three granting councils and certain other federally funded organizations. The Federation welcomes members' views addressed to Peter Severinson as we develop a process for a Federation submission.
