US Navy’s Blue Angels "Fat Albert" at MVCC
MVCC’s Airframe and Powerplant students pose for a group shot with the Blue Angels C-130T Hercules “Fat Albert” and its crew.

MVCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technology students had a rare opportunity to go onboard and meet the crew of the United States Marine Corp’s C-130T Hercules “Fat Albert.”This aircraft is an icon on the airshow circuit known for its aerobatic opening of US Navy’s Blue Angels flight demonstration. It is used to carry the materials and maintenance support crew required to keep the team’s F-18 demonstration aircraft in airworthy condition. Students were allowed to walk through “Bert’s” cargo hold, visit the flight deck, and spend time having their questions answered by the flight crew. At the conclusion of the tour they were treated to a front row view of C-130’s complete airshow demonstration.

“Fat Albert” spent a week at Griffiss International Airport after coming out of a ten-month maintenance inspection. Its crew practiced its flight demonstration up to eight times a day in our local airspace before rejoining the rest of the Blue Angel team for the 2017 airshow season.
