Winter Giving Projects Distribute Essential Items
From socks, to coats to food baskets, our staff delivered the goods
Community Concepts staff were busy this month distributing  hundreds of socks, winter clothing  and holiday baskets to families we serve throughout the tri-county area.

Sock Drive for Early Learning Center

The community donated over 1,000 socks to Jay Early Learning Center.

Jay Early Learning Center received hundreds of socks through a Sock Drive project spearheaded by University of Maine Farmington student Cynthia Kaherl. Several local businesses set out baskets for people to drop off new pairs of socks, and the community response was tremendous!

Winter Clothing for Local Families

Nancy Hawkins and Kayla Brown with some of the winter gear gifted to families.

Due to a federal CSBG grant, we were able to purchase  114 hats, 39 mittens, 64 gloves, 58 boots, 35 ski pants, 3 infant snow suits and 127 winter jackets - f or 162 children, ages 0-17!

"We had a blast overfilling shopping carts and having shoppers ask us what was happening. Such a great way to share what Community Concepts is all about," Nancy Hawkins said.

Holiday Food Baskets

Also this month, we provided 126 families, including 233 adults and 288 children with holiday food baskets. This included:

720 pounds of potatoes
168 cans of green beans
156 cans of corn
152 boxes of stuffing
120 apple pies
145 12-count dinner rolls
145 cans of cranberry sauce
152 boxes of stuffing
24 pumpkins
123 $10 Hannaford Supermarkets gift cards

"It is such a humbling experience to work on this project each year and at the same time, an amazing feeling to be able to support the families we serve," said Gemma Rogers, our staff person who organized the project.

Second Annual Signature Event Exceeds Goals

Our second annual wine dinner and concert fundraiser on Nov. 18th at the Franco Center had a great turnout with over 200 people! We exceeded our goal, raising approximately $15,000 with all proceeds from ticket sales going directly to the agency, since sponsors covered the costs.

Community Concepts & Community Concepts Finance Corp staff served dinner and wine to guests.
We would like to thank Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Dead River Company, TD Bank and Cross Insurance for their sponsorship!

In addition to our valuable sponsors, help from across the agency made the event a success. Many staff helped spread the word about the event. Some volunteered their time to beautify the space  and serve wine and five courses to guests.

A special thank you to  Fish Bones American Grill  and  Executive Chef Tony Sherrer who prepared the amazing  5-course dinner which was paired with fantastic wines selected by Stacey Thurston of Central Distributors.

Following the dinner, guests enjoyed two singer/songwriter performances by Don Campbell and his band, and Jon Pousette-Dart and his band. It was a wonderful evening!

Don Campbell and his band perform at Community Concepts' 2017 Signature Event.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
Next year's Signature event will feature our 5-course wine dinner again with a performance by Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary on Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Franco Center!
