Great Progress This Year!
Strategic Plan Update Session Held April 13
A Message From Superintendent Dr. Jim Gottinger

One year ago, our school districts developed a new Strategic Plan to guide our direction for the next three to four years. The overarching goal of this plan is to move our educational system forward to ensure we’re always meeting the needs of and providing great opportunities for our students.

The planning team for our districts’ strategic plan met on Thursday, April 13 to report on and review the progress we’ve made on accomplishing the strategies and objectives that we formulated last spring.

The planning team is made up more than fifty students, parents, teachers, board members and administrators. The update included information from each school in the districts (Central-Denison, Eastview, Star Center, Lake Geneva Middle School and Badger High School).

The group was asked to grade our progress thus far. The progress grade was a B+ average, showing that we’re making great strides in the areas of developing the whole learner, promoting community engagement, developing and retaining exceptional staff and enhancing quality facilities and resources.

New initiatives for the upcoming school year include:
  • Morning and afternoon daycare in the schools for K-5th grade students
  • Pre-Advanced Placement courses for middle school language arts students
  • An online blended learning option for students in grades 6-12
We will continue to focus on our core strategies and strategic objectives during the 2017-2018 school year. Our planning team will reconvene next spring to, again, assess the progress and keep the plan moving forward.

We have much to be proud of in our districts. I thank you for your continued support of our schools and students.

LGMS 6th Graders Learn
In The Great Outdoors
Learning doesn't always take place in a classroom. Our LGMS 6th grade students can attest to that! They just wrapped up their 2-day Outdoor Education experience at Camp Maclean. Students enjoyed classes in the woods, swamp, prairie & lake. Favorite activities included learning how to make a campfire; studying samples from the swamp under a microscope; a ropes course & climbing wall; fishing; archery; & various other team-building & problem-solving activities. Visit the LGMS Facebook Page to view camp photos.
