United Way Study Shines a Light on Virginia's Working Population - The ALICE population (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) represents individuals and families who work hard and earn more than the official Federal Poverty Level, but less than the basic cost of living. Of note, the three localities with the highest percentage of households below the ALICE threshold were Williamsburg, with 57%, Newport News 49%, and Hampton 47%. We provide support to more than 230 nonprofits serving Williamsburg, James City & York counties, Newport News, Hampton, Gloucester-Mathews, Poquoson, and surrounding communities.
