Police Warn of Home Inspection Scam

The Hawthorn Woods Police Department has recently received multiple reports from residents regarding a new scam taking place in the area. In this scam, someone calls claiming to be a village employee from the Building Department. The scammer then offers to inspect the resident’s home post-storm for damage as a courtesy to them. The Hawthorn Woods Police Department warns residents not to make any appointments, and never let an unidentified person into your home. Your best defense is to hang up the phone.  All Hawthorn Woods village employees requesting to enter your property for inspection will have proper village issued identification and will be in a municipal vehicle.

If someone appears at your door claiming to be a Village employee, you can verify their credentials by calling Village Hall at (847) 438-5500. Always dial 911 in the event of an emergency.

Beyond that, there are other programs and organizations that we partner with to help our residents in crisis.  Our assistance is meant to provide temporary relief and helps until residents can become self-supporting or qualify for other forms of relief. When there is a need, perhaps because of a recent crisis or job loss, we urge residents to reach out to us. We want everyone to know we have a food pantry.
