With Irma raging her way across the Caribbean, leaving behind massive destruction, and headed to Florida and the Eastern seaboard, we are all watching closely the path she will take. Knowing the generosity of our community for the needs we know will lie ahead from Hurricane Irma's wake and in order to be prepared for it, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County has established a fund to support relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
While our local needs are our first priority, we will partner with the network of community foundations in Florida and the Southeastern United States on distributing funds to the areas of greatest need should Irma's path veer to the East and not hit our area as severely. I am fortunate to have recently served as the Chair of the 28 Community Foundations of Florida and have gotten to know my fellow Florida CEO colleagues well. I am also honored to serve as a Trustee of the Southeastern Council of Foundations and have a terrific network of additional community foundation partners throughout the Southeastern US. We will be in close communication with our colleagues to ensure the best use of funds for relief and recovery efforts for our neighbors in Irma's path, however the fund's first priority will remain on our local community.
Our offices will be closed on Monday, but if you would like to make a contribution from your Donor Advised Fund, please contact either Marlo Turner, Senior Vice President of Donor Engagement, at 918.804.2947 or Lauren Hughey, Director of Donor Services, at 512.826.2682.
Thank you for being the one to care and give generously for those whose lives will be upended by Hurricane Irma. We are keeping everyone in our prayers and hearts.
