EVTA Community Trails Meeting...
Elkin Valley Trails Association (EVTA) is hosting a community meeting on
February 18, 2016 at 7 PM at the Elkin Center of Surry Community College at
1461 North Bridge Street in Elkin.

Everyone who enjoys a walk, run, bike or horseback ride, a kayak or canoe paddle is invited to attend.  If you are interested in learning what the EVTA is doing, want to pitch in with us or just want to meet some really cool people who are working to boost our economy and create something for the common good of our larger community, please favorably consider joining us for the meeting. We'll have a short PowerPoint presentation about recent successes, address some plans for 2016 and 2017 and then listen to suggestions and comments. Afterwards, we'll divide into small groups for those with particular interests in trail building and development, trail art, trail angels, Insane Terrain, birding, wildflowers, dog park, Duck & Turtle Regatta, Tour de Vino, Trails Boogie, horseback riding, mountain bike and running course, paddling, Friends of the Elkin Valley Trails Association and maybe a surprise table : )

Here is your chance to volunteer and to join us as we plan to make 2016 another great year for trails and trail activity in our area! EVTA is an all-volunteer organization...we get it done when we all help!

Elkin to Host Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail Annual Meeting in 2017!

EVTA has been proud to be an active partner and MST Task Force with the Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail (FMST) as we build and promote trail building between Stone Mountain and Pilot Mountain State Parks. Many of you are already Friends of the MST and are aware of everything they are doing to support this 1,100 mile NC trail.

In case you weren't one of the 250 Friends at the FMST Annual Meeting this month at Elon University who heard this exciting news in person, it was announced that the 2017 annual meeting will be in Elkin! Mark your calendars for the weekend of February 3rd, 2017 as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the MST and host attendees with a weekend of activities in and around our fair town. We plan to really roll out the red carpet!

All FMST members are invited to attend the meeting and festivities in 2017. Please visit
Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail to sign up and to learn more.

Thank you, volunteers, for getting Elkin and our area on the radar of people interested in trails and a great outdoor experience. If you didn't get a chance to see this article, check out why some folks think Elkin is North Carolina's next great trail town!

RootsRated - Trail Town

This past week, EVTA lost a friend and a valuable Governing Board member who had been a part of our organization for several years.

Thank you, Terry Kryska, for your friendship, your dedication to making sure we did things with integrity and impeccable attention to detail, your volunteer spirit and your time spent creating the community that we all want to live in.

You are celebrated and missed, and we will remember you every time we walk across the bridge that you spent so much time making a reality.
