Hospice Liaison
Jeanelle Atiyeh

Jenelle Atiyea (Sayre) came back to us in September for a presentation of her program, Volunteering with Hospice. Hospice is largely run with volunteers and there is always a need for people. Whether you can answer phones for two hours, do some much needed filing, help with a direct mailing, or just pull weeds in the garden there's a place for you at hospice. If you'd like to share two hours or two weeks, talk with the good folks at Hospice and see what you can do to help. There will be something you can do there always is.

Jeanelle got married this month and she was a stunning bride. Join us in sending congratulations to Jeanelle & Chuck Sayre.

Y a'll come see us anytime.

Greetings!

The Golden Valley Community Club will meet on Monday, October 17 at 7:00 PM at the clubhouse for our regular dinner meeting.

This month's guest speaker will be Chivous Bradley, who has a keen interest in the wonderful history of our county. Chivous volunteers as a county historian, and these days has a special interest in our area. He's coming out to visit with us to share the story of the Biggerstaff Hanging Tree. (Rutherford County has acquired this historic property on Whitesides Road). If there's time he'll talk about the gold in Golden Valley and if there's not time we hope he'll come back.

May we remind regular guests to bring a dish and a dollar, (or more). First time guests, come on in and be our guest, dinner's on us. Second time guests? There is no second time. "Come once you're a guest, come back  you're a member." Tom Melton

Local Author J. Wessier joins us this month, she's sharing a short-story woven from our history and in the nick of time for Halloween. Who doesn't like to hear a Ghost Story?.

This month Golden Valley's Facebook page is has 330 "likers". Like us and we'll like you, too. And if you "like" your contractor, or beautician, if there's someone or something you want to recommend, by all means write about it on our wall.

Camp McCall  Ronnie Walker, Camp Manager is hosting Bondservants at the Camp this fall. They're having a gathering and have people from as far away as Washington, Texas, Oregon.

The Community Outreach at Washburn is open on Friday and Saturday. Pastor Laurie Knoespel reports:

The Washburn Community Outreach Center is serving 3 school backpack programs - Ellenboro, Sunshine and East Middle School. In an effort to stop hunger, volunteers stuff backpacks for school children to take home over the weekend.

And as always we are so thankful for the volunteers who give not only their time and energy and resources, but also their faith and compassion in ministering to our clients.

On October 1st from 9am - 2pm, as part of IMPACT Community Day with the United Methodist Church, the center gave away their Summer clothes and shoes! _______________________________________________

The Cherry Mountain Fire Department Auxiliary reports that the firemen have responded to about 194 fire calls so far this year.

Have you seen the new flag pole at the fire department? This was a gift to the fire department from the auxiliary club. The flag is flying today thanks to everyone who bought a cookbook, a tee-shirt, made a donation, attended our supper at Cedar Grove, or made a donation.

Did you know that in addition to buying flag poles, the auxiliary buys food, gatorade, bottled water and other things for the firemen that aren't covered in the department's budget?
