PAY IT FORWARD IN FITNESS
As part of BAC's quarterly Power Hour last night, owner Trina Gray gifted every employee $20 cash...with a fun twist. They were invited to keep part of it for themselves and then pay part of it foward to someone else. To remind us that at BAC, our job is to pay fitness forward!

For the $20 gift, that could go toward buying a coffee for the person behind you in line, dropping of $5 at the Humane Society, leaving an extra tip for a server, sending a card to a loved one... anything! We are collecting the stories of what everyone did with their money just for fun.

Just minutes ago, new trainer Dan Oliver used his money to buy a t-shirt for BAC member  Bryce Collman! WOW!

SAVE THE DATE
Nancy Szejbach came to Bay Athletic Club with a focus on lowering her cholesterol and A1C (blood sugar over time reading) levels.  It is working!  We are excited to share her story with our community tonight!  Nancy is nearing retirement and seeing more and more fun unfolding in her future because she is taking care of her health.  Tune in to the WBKB 6pm news tonight to hear Nancy's story!

Does a fellow BAC member inspire you? Nominate them to be our next story by emailing Sarah@BayAthleticClub.com.

We were so excited to give out more BAC Swag in April!  Jorge, Ken, Nancy, TJ and Margaret are some of the members who earned a BAC blanket for hitting the 100th check-in mark. Many other members are close!

Here's the quick 411 on BAC Rewards: we want to reward YOU, our members, for making fitness a priority year round.  Members who get at least 100 check-ins during 2018 will receive a red BAC sweatshirt blanket: perfect for picnics, sporting events or snuggling on the couch.  Members who get at least 200 check-ins during 2018 will get the blanket and the sideline chair!  Oh...it comes with a carrying case too!

No strings attached, just more BAC SWAG and incentive for you, our valued members.
Community Outreach

THANK YOU to everyone who supported our Sweat for a Cause workout to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. A grand total of $550 was raised! All of those proceeds go to the nonprofit organization that helps make the dreams of children living with life-threatening illnesses come true. Join us for our next Sweat for a Cause on Friday, May 18th to benefit Friends Together!

Tra iners from BAC had a BLAST teaching fitnes circuits to hundreds of students at Thunder Bay Jr. High in PE class with teachers Mr. Voltz and Mrs. Andrews.

The students learned that fitness is for a lifetime, fitness is for everyone and fitness is fun. The students jumped on BOSUs, punched target paddles and got stronger with bands and TRXs.

Shakeology of the Month
KEY LIME SHAKEOLOGY
It tastes like dessert, but acts like a vitamin!

Why Shakeology?
We all struggle with food prep and getting all the nutrients we need in life every day. Shakeology solves both of those problems.  It literally fills the gaps in our daily nutrition. We still advocate eating clean, colorful, whole foods for your daily meals. Shakeology is a multivitamin in a meal.

It is quick, convenient and filled with vitamins, minerals, superfoods, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and protein. It is NOT a diet shake or a quick fix. It is whole food nutrition.

Need Shakeology at home for YOUR family? FREE shaker cup with purchase!

HEALTHY EATS!
from Kelly Lake
Trust me and try this recipe. If you don't like spicy, take it out completely. Your dinner will still be full of flavor. Based on one of the essential Thai recipes, this Thai bowl features ground chicken that is wonderfully seasoned with soy and fish sauce and served with pickled red onion, lime juice, sticky rice and fresh herbs to bring it all together. This should take you all of 30 minutes to prepare and cook. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 small red onion
¼ to 1/3 cup rice vinegar
1 cup rice (white is traditional)
1 and ½ cup water
1 TBSP vegetable oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 bunch green onion (scallion), sliced on the diagonal
1 lb. ground chicken
Salt and pepper
2 TBSP soy sauce
1 tsp. fish sauce
1 tsp. Sambal Oelek (o Sriracha)
1 TBSP brown sugar
1 head of washed Bibb or Butter lettuce leaves
1 or 2 limes cut into wedges
1 bunch of cilantro

Method:
First, thinly slice half a red onion and place in a small bowl with rice vinegar. Let it hang out in the fridge until you're ready to eat. Meanwhile, steam some white rice. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Add a pound of ground chicken, two minced garlic cloves, three thinly sliced scallions (whites and greens). Season with a little salt and pepper and cook until chicken is cooked through and browned. Stir in two tablespoons of soy sauce, a teaspoon of fish sauce, a small spoonful of sambal oelek or other hot sauce (like sriracha), and a tablespoon of brown sugar, cooking until the liquid is almost completely reduced. Serve the larb over rice, lime wedges, quick-pickled onions, more sambal oelek, and cilantro and the rest of the green part only of green onion. Scoop out a serving into Bibb or butter lettuce leaves. Serving size is 2 leaves. This recipe serves four.
YOUR BRAIN WORKOUT
Mindset is a big part of being healthy and staying healthy. Not to mention a good human. If you are looking for some positive workouts for your brain check out this favorite from trainers Sarah Morrison and Kelly Lake.
They love listening to the stories of how companies were built. There are ups and downs and great lessons on how to be resilient and continue to work towards greatness. It is great entertainment and motivation.

A Community Health  Club: Deeply Rooted in our Mission to Transform Lives

As a locally owned and operated health club of 12 years, Bay Athletic Club is deeply rooted to our community. So when we had a chance to take some fun staff pictures at our quarterly "Power Hour" meeting last night, we got right into the heart of our downtown and took pictures along the river at the old Fletcher paper mill. Thank you Amanda Coulon, our talented friend from from Pure North Photography, for your calm and fun personality and eye for creativity.

Our team is as unique as our backdrop. We come from all walks of life and experiences in fitness.
  • Stay at home moms who found their strength in fitness and joined the crusade.
  • Exercise science and physical therapy grads who found wellness to be rewarding.
  • Government and military professionals who found joy in the community of fitness.
  • Teachers, dentists, occupational therapists, community leaders and educational consultants who found happiness in paying their love of fitness forward.
  • High school and college students who have already made fitness a part of life and are happy to work in a positive industry.
We are strong, inside and out, and we are committed to transforming lives in our community.
We know that our members' journeys are as unique as our own. Whether you were a high school athlete who let your fitness go as a parent, or a retiree who wants to find a healthier next chapter, or you want to set a good example for your household by embracing better habits, we are here to help you achieve that.

It is never too late to start fresh in fitness.
If you've been gone, find your way back.
We will not judge. We will welcome you.

If you've been consistent, set a new goal.
It can be health related, or a 5K race or the number of workouts you want to complete.
Keep yourself motivated to stay on track.

We are here. Thank you for trusting us with a piece of your life.
