This is the second in a series of three letters to all Burlington Township Community Members about keeping our children safe, the effects of vaping and how to take control of an emerging crisis that is growing in popularity. Although this letter series is focused on vaping, the program will cover all aspects of drug use and abuse which we see in our community.
Do you know what a Juul is? Have you heard about dripping?
Three years ago, parents challenged me and our school system with protecting our kids. As a district, we have worked hard to address the growing mental health issues in partnership with families and the community. Resources have been allocated, and procedures established, to identify potential at-risk students and provide awareness to families. The school district cannot do this alone. Parents must be involved, parents must be alert, and parents must continue to learn what threatens their children. As a school district, we are only part of the solution.
You may be frightened to learn this, but as a school district, we have seen children as young as pre-teens engaged in trying all sorts of risky behaviors including vaping. As a community, we must believe in protecting our children by being vigilant and aware. Most of us find it easier to believe that our own children could not be engaging in risky behavior. As parents, we simply cannot take that chance. We need to look for the warning signs.
If you have ever said "not my child," it is important that you join us for this program! There is no better way to ensure it will not be your child except to understand what your child may be facing. Knowledge is a powerful tool in raising a child. Our goal is to equip parents with knowledge and information you can use at home to help guide our impressional children.
Please join us on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:30 P.M. when we bring back Timothy Shoemaker and his program "High-Ding in Plain Sight." This event that was attended by several parents last year and was brought back by popular demand. In order to guide our children, we must be informed and fearless in facing difficult topics. Come and join us. You may leave a little more frightened than when you came in, but you will have more information and will be better prepared to take control. Register today!
Our dedicated Student Assistant Coordinator(s) will be available before and after the presentation.
We want to provide parents with an opportunity to have their questions answered and share their concerns.
