Summer is in full swing!    The Special Events List for July to August is posted, as is the  2017 Summer Concert Series calendar.    Information is available for the August 14   Family Movie Night at BWGCC.   ZOOTOPIA will be shown at 7:45 PM; bring a picnic dinner and a blanket (no barbecues please).   
 
Summer day camp registration is still available for  Session 4 of Kamp Kairphree.    See below for information on several fall sports programs for youth or adults; registration is now open for some programs.
 
Although a bit behind schedule, the new  Greenwich Skatepark  is making progress.  A new concrete park is under construction and should open in September.  Keep on the watch for the grand opening date.

Summer Concerts concerts
We have some great concerts scheduled for August.  The Wednesday night concerts at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park begin at 7:15 PM including:

August 2  Bearcats - Jazz
August 9  Souled Again - Motown
August 16  The Short Bus - Pop Rock Covers
August 23  Ticket to Ride - Beatles

A Dixieland Jazz Band Concert on the Sound will be Sunday, August 13 with a rain date of August 20. Island Beach Ferry departs dock at 4:00 PM and returns 6:00 PM.    Park Pass and Ferry Fees apply.

Kamp Kairphree summercamps
Registration continues  for Kamp Kairphree Session  4 which begins August 7.  Kamp Kairphree   is a co-ed program for children ages 5-12.  It operates weekdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM out of the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center.   Read more .  Non residents may also register in person or by mail.

Fall Sports racquetsports
Fall Field Hockey registration is now open for resident youth in grades 1-8.  Games will be scheduled with other towns for grades 3 through 8.  

Boys ages 8-12 can participate in a Fall Baseball Clinic for eight sessions.  Experienced instruction will be provided outdoors in September and October. 
  
An organizational meeting will be held for  2017-18 Co-ed Volleyball on September 5, players must be 16 years or older.

Fall Pickleball registration opens today for resident adults.  Register for one, two, or three days per week of play at EGCC.
Fall Soccer soccer
Registration is now open for Fall Soccer for youth ages 3-9.  Play will be held on eight Saturdays at Havemeyer fields behind Town Hall.  This program will focus on the fundamentals of soccer, which include passing, dribbling, trapping, and shooting through skill work and modified games .

Super Soccer Stars will be running some youth soccer programs in the fall. Ages 6-8 will meet from 4:00 to 5:00 PM on Fridays and ages 9-12 will meet from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM on Saturdays, both at Loughlin Avenue field. Eastern Greenwich Civic Center EGCC
The EGCC is still accepting r egistration for Session 4 of Kamp Kairphree. Also, times are available to drop in for pickleball.   For additional information on programs in August and September, see our August Newsletter .         

The Civic Center has rooms of varying sizes available to rent for your next party, meeting, or class!  Call us at (203) 637-4583 or contact us by e-mail .  The EGCC is located at 90 Harding Road in Old Greenwich.  
BWGCCBendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center
We have several opportunities for summer fun.  Filmmakers Ink has a one-week program for youth the end of August; the Dance Pointe has summer sessions for youth; and Sew Happy is a one-week sewing camp .  Jay and Ray Music  has classes for ages 6 months to 4 years old.     BWGCC has other fun programs for youth including, Just Wee Two and the many programs of The Dance Pointe.  

Adults can participate in Zumba classes.  Open Coed Adult Volleyball is held Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00 PM.    Adults can drop-in to play Pickleball; see the  Pickleball schedule    KG Fitness Boot Camp class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Register for one or both evenings.

Griffith E. Harris Golf Course  Griff
The Town of Greenwich Junior Championship Tournament was held at the  Griff on July 20.  Following are the winners in each category:


Boys 18 holes ages 14-17:  Tie - Peter Magliocco and Ryan Miles
Boys 18 holes ages 10-13:  Theodore Walsh
Boys 9 holes ages 10-13:  Tie - Peter Kapp and Chad Ruggiero
Girls 18 holes ages 14-17: Grace Sunoo
Girls 9 holes ages 10-13:  Lavinia Cartellieri  

Reduced Rates:  August 14, 15, and 16 - Twilight Rates will be in effect all day!  Members $21; Non-members $31.  The greens are being aerated on August 14, 15 and possibly 16 (if necessary), so there will some temporary greens on those days.  Happy golfing!

Department Wide News .....

For those who take the ferry and use the Arch Street parking lot, we have important information to share and a map to show the designated parking areas at the lot.  Please see the Ferry Users Guide to Arch Street Parking. 

 

Binney Park will be under going a pond maintenance dredging and bank restoration project this summer.  Click here for a press release from the Engineering Division of DPW.

Senior Center News

The Greenwich Senior Center has many programs and services available.  Please click here  for the   August 2017   issue of  The Lantern.   
Parks & Recreation Foundation PRFoundation
The Greenwich Parks & Recreation Foundation was set up to receive donations, allowing the community citizens and businesses an avenue to donate to the Town of Greenwich Parks & Recreation projects and  programs.  The foundation is a 501(c)(3).  For more information and to donate, visit the Foundation website .
  
Through the Parks & Recreation Foundation, one is able to donate to the Parks & Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Health Department News
The Health Department has new important information to share regarding West Nile Virus.

Greenwich Farmers Market

The  Greenwich Farmers Market is open for the 2017 season.  It will be open every Saturday from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM through November at the commuter parking lot on the corner of Arch Street and Horseneck Lane.  Download a flyer.

Special Recreation
Greenwich Special Olympics  offers sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual or physical challenges.  Read more.

Abilis  meets the needs of people with developmental disabilities throughout their lives.  Abilis works in schools, civic organizations, and with families throughout Fairfield County.  Their events are posted on their website calendar .

Weather Cancellation Information
Please make note of the Recreation Division's weather cancellation hotline phone # (203) 861-6100.  Information regarding cancellations and closures is also posted on our Recreation Sports Website , where you can also sign up to get text alerts and/or e-mails notifying you of changes. 

Recreation Credit and Refund Policy
Credit requests for recreation program registration will be considered if received in writing prior to the start of the program.  There is a $15.00 administrative fee for credits.
  
The general policy of the Recreation Division is that we do not process refunds unless a program has been cancelled.  Please read all registration information carefully and contact us prior to registering for a program if you have any questions.
