Dear CEA Community,
There was an error in the recent August newsletter sent out. The dates listed for the parent orientation nights were noted incorrectly. Please find the corrected dates in the Back to School section of this newsletter.
Thank you for your understanding!

Summer at CEA 2017 was a tremendous success!

The school and Conservatory were bustling with activity, creativity, innovation, and collaboration.  Each year our summer programs truly are "mejor, mejor, y mejor!"

Our students did an OUTSTANDING job this summer.
We are blessed and beyond grateful for our Summer Camp Coordinators:  Dr. Novoa, Mrs. Frades and Mrs. Atienza.  Thank you to our faculty and staff for their professionalism, leadership, hard work, dedication, and love!

Thank you to our AMAZING ALUMNI for continuing to support and give back to the CEA Community. This summer, we had over  35 CEA Alumni working or volunteering in Summer of the Arts! This is a record for CEA, and it doesn't include the 8 additional alumni in the summer faculty and administration!
We truly are More Than A School!

Information for Summer 2018 programs will be

gonzalez Ms. Gonzalez Represents CEA at DISRUPT Miami

On, Friday, July 28th, our Educational Technology Coordinator, Christina Gonzalez, was invited to participate in a panel discussion for DISRUPT Miami at The Langsford Hotel in Downtown Miami. DISRUPT Miami is a monthly breakfast series connecting like-minded individuals with local innovators and creators who are shaping the way of Miami's future. This month's discussion focused on education and the role the private sector plays in helping improve the quality of education in our schools in Miami. Ms. Gonzalez joined four other panelists from various walks of life, as she spoke about how the arts impact children and how CEA implements the arts into the curriculum and the students' daily lives. Ms. Gonzalez spoke about the importance of seeing each child as an individual and giving them an outlet to bring out their own "extraordinary". She also spoke about CEA's unique Mastery Program and how it allows our students to explore and hone in an area of interest or passion. When they opened up the Q&A session to the audience, an audience member said "if only all of our schools were like Conchita".

Other areas addressed in the discussion were the need for schools in Downtown Miami, the idea of education changing now that information is so easily accessible to our students, and the improvements that need to be made to our urban and under-served communities.

We are so proud of Ms. Gonzalez and the impact she is making on our community. Each day she is helping to make CEA "mejor, mejor, y mejor!"
Conchita Espinosa -Trip to A Noise Within Theatre
Conchita Espinosa -Trip to A Noise Within Theatre, 2016

We are proud to announce that this April, our Theatre Department will travel to Pasadena, California once more to study at A Noise Within (ANW)!

ANW is a classical theatre repertory company founded in 1992 by CEA alumna, Julia Rodriguez-Elliott (CEA c/o 1974) and her husband Geoff Elliott. Since its inauguration, ANW has evolved from being a small neighborhood theatre company to becoming one of the most distinguished theatre companies in the Southern California area-- consistently raising the bar on how great classical theatre can be.
Select students in 5th - 8th grade in theatre mastery or Conservatory theatre classes, as well as 7th and 8th grade students who excel in Literature and Playwriting, will be invited to participate. The primary purpose of this trip is to visit ANW and study theatre. Students will watch two professional plays ( Henry V and A Raisin in the Sun), understand how a professional theatre works from all perspectives by touring and speaking to directors, crew members, designers, writers, and actors, and delve into texts through intensive workshops centered around the plays they will watch. This is an incredible opportunity not to be missed! More details on the trip and invitations will be sent home when school starts!
