From the Desk of Maribel Zubieta-Diaz:

On a day like today 102 years ago Conchita was born. Out of her
dreams, her hard work, her intelligence, her talent, and her perseverance CEA was born.

We cel ebrate Conchita. She is our founder; her philosophy is our inspiration. But today we also celebrate the ones that believe in her dreams, beginning with her sister Alicia, a quiet but formidable woman that dedicated her life to our children. We celebrate the leadership of Conchita, people that are constantly looking for what is best for our young ones, moving forward but never losing sight of our essence. We celebrate our teachers and staff, a diverse, joyful, strong group of educators, dedicated to giving our youth not only the tools to succeed academically but the tools to live well, to have values, to think and to feel deeply. We celebrate our parents who trust us with their greatest treasures, who support and believe in Conchita's dream - parents aware that we are not perfect, but that together we grow as parents and educators to the benefit of our children. We celebrate all our students, present and past. We celebrate their wisdom and their innocence in loving, protecting, and cherishing their second home. We celebrate 83 years of love, trust, growth, joy, tears, successes and disappointments, dreams and achievements. We celebrate with pride that we are Conchita.

In This Issue:

We would like to give a sincere THANK YOU to Conchita Cruz from Sunshine Uniforms for generously donating a new piano to CEA for the Rosita Segovia Theatre. We are incredibly grateful to have wonderful partners like you.

The Conchita Espinosa Theatre Department is proud to present William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream . Directed by Mr. Ean Kessler, the production will be a collaborative effort between our theatre and music departments. A modern-dress production, Music Mastery students will play live popular music, enhancing the anachronistic nature of the production and adding to the duality between fantasy and reality by which this play is characterized.

theatreTheatre Students Travel to California

We are proud to announce that this March, CEA/CEC is planning an educational experience trip to California with our school and conservatory theatre students.  The primary purpose of this school trip is to visit and study theatre at A Noise Within, a classical theatre repertory company in Pasadena, California founded in 1992 by CEA graduate, Julia Rodriguez-Elliott (c/o 1974) and her husband, Geoff Elliott. Since its inauguration, A Noise Within has evolved from being a small neighborhood theatre company to becoming one of the most distinguished theatre companies in the Southern California area-- consistently raising the bar on how great classical theatre can be.  Learn More About A Noise Within

Teacher Work Day. There are no classes on this day.
CEA will then be closed for Spring Break from

On Friday, February 26th we were thrilled to host the Miami Bach Society at CEA. Four distinguished musicians visiting Miami from Russia, France, Finland, and Switzerland, came to CEA to rehearse for the Tropical Baroque Music Festival that took place on Sunday, February 28th.

Jay Bernfeld (France)- viola da gamba
Dmitri Sinkovsky (Russia) - violin
Aapo Hakkinen - (Finland) harpsichord
Luca Piana (Switzerland) - lute

As part of their school outreach program, Junior and Senior Music Mastery, as well as select music students, had the opportunity to watch the last half hour of rehearsal, followed by a Q&A session with the artists. They had the chance to play a real harpsichord and learn about early music instruments and Baroque music. See pictures
Miami Bach Society will return to CEA on March 9th for a special assembly for 4th - 6th grades, with visiting guest, Echoing Air. Echoing Air will give the students a lecture demonstration to introduce them to Baroque music through the works of Henry Purcell and his contemporaries. Students will be introduced to instruments including the harpsichord, viola da gamba, Gaelic harp, recorder, baroque flute, baroque bassoon, and the countertenor voice, as well as listen to examples of musical forms of the period such as airs, sonatas, and suites.

augustine4th Grade Explores St. Augustine

In conjunction with their studies of Florida history, 4th Grade traveled to the historic city of St. Augustine, Florida. This annual overnight field trip was an excellent opportunity for students to experience what they've been reading and learning about. The Old Florida Museum hosted a re-enactment of what life was like in an Indian Village, a Spanish Village, a Pioneer Village and on board a ship. Playing games students of long ago played, writing with quill and ink, grinding corn, making candles, boring holes for pegs - they experience so many things to excite a lesson in history. A visit to the lighthouse, a stroll through the Old Fort, a drink from the Fountain of Youth, and what overnight field trip would be complete without a ghost tour!  Students and parents enjoyed their time in
St. Augustine tremendously, as they saw history come to life.  See Pictures
