HAPPY NEW YEAR!
President's Message
Dear Chamber Members and Supporters:

Welcome to 2020! I hope you all had an opportunity to relax, spend time with your family and friends and set your goals for the year ahead. We are off to a great start thus far! FCHCC and our Chairwoman and Board of Directors invite you to continue to join us at our upcoming events and workshops. We have a full slate of events in 2020 catered to you our members and community. As we continue in this journey, please feel free to reach out and engage our board and I for suggestions and feedback. Growth means change and adapting as our city continues to evolve. The Hispanic Community continues to grow in Jacksonville and we’re beyond excited to see the success of our Hispanic-owned business and executives that represent us in Corporate America.

2020 is a huge year. We will have the Census and the Presidential elections ahead. Are you informed on what this means to you, your family and the community you live in? It is critical that we remain informed on the dates and why participating is so important.

What is the Census and why is it so important?
  • Census data will determine how more than $675 billion are spent, supporting your state, county and community’s vital programs
  • Businesses use census data to decide where to build factories, offices and stores, which create jobs
  • Residents use the census to support community initiatives involving legislation, quality-of-life and consumer advocacy
  • The census counts every person living in the U.S. once
  • Every 10 years, the results of the census are used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets.

It’s important to note that your responses are protected by Federal Law; they can only be used to produce Statistics. The Census cannot share your information with immigration enforcement agencies and law enforcement agencies. For more information, please visit our website or Census.gov .

Moreover, we have the Presidential elections ahead. Regardless of your party affiliations, make sure you are registered to vote. It is our right and our duty to vote.

Election Day:

  • Presidential Preference Primary Election: March 17
  • Primary Election: August 18
  • General Election: November 3

Registration Deadline:
Eligible individuals can register to vote at any time. The deadline to register in order to participate in an upcoming election is 29 days before the election. The registration deadlines for 2020 are:

  • Presidential Preference Primary Election: February 18*
  • Primary Election: July 20
  • General Election: October 5

*Due to the federal holiday, the deadline moved from Monday, February 17th to Tuesday, February 18th.

Thank you for your continuous support and stay tuned as we will be publishing some exciting news in the next couple of weeks!

Message from the Chair of the Board
Dear FCHCC Members and Friends:

When a New Year starts, many of us write resolutions or goals for the New Year. We reflect on what went well the previous year and what we would like to change moving forward. We set a plan to help us grow personally and professionally. What are your resolutions and goals for 2020?

I would love if you would consider sharing your top 3 goals with me for 2020. Please feel free to email them to me at: [email protected] . Sharing your goals with a friend, co-worker, manager or partner is a way of committing to them. It makes you accountable because you have shared them.

Change is something that we will all encounter many times in our careers and I am sure many of you have already experienced some kind of change in 2020. My boss recently told me if I am not uncomfortable, I am not growing! Our goal by being part of the FCHCC is to grow our businesses. Growing our businesses isn’t always about increased sales. It is also increased knowledge that helps us be more educated in our business decisions. I would love to hear from you if there is an educational component you feel would benefit you greatly in 2020!

Finally, we have big plans ahead as we enter in 2020. I personally would like to thank the Board of Directors and all of our members for an amazing 2019. I look forward to what this year holds for us.

Sincerely,

Angela Merritt
