Congratulations Graduates!

Creating a College-Going Culture
Congratulations Lizette Neri Mancilla!  Lizette graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Counseling.  This fall she will begin a Master's Program in Counseling.

"My mother graduated from PIQE's program in 2007 when I was in high school.  Witnessing my mom's active participation in my education encouraged me to want to help other families have the same opportunity.  This is one of the main reasons I've decided to become a school counselor.  As a school counselor, I will  work hard to engage parents.  I feel that having a parent that understands, even on the most basic level of how the school system works, can make a difference in the achievement of their children. Thanks to PIQE, I have no trouble discussing typical issues with my mom that are associated with being in college because she understands.  Being able to have these conversations with my mom made us closer even though we are nearly 200 miles away" stated Lizette.

Congratulations Vanessa Magana!  Vanessa graduated from Irvington High School.  She will be attending California State University, Sacramento this upcoming fall semester to pursue a degree in Recreational Therapy.

"My mom's involvement with PIQE began when I was a sophomore in high school. She would come home with the urge to share with me what she leaned in her class. The more classes she attended the more she got involved in my and my younger sister's education. My mom learned a lot about the education system through her participation in PIQE. She became very supportive about me going to college.  She knew all the requirements and tests I had to take in order for me to apply and get into college. Now because of everything she has learned through PIQE I will be attending college this Fall. Thank you PIQE for advancing the knowledge of the education system of all parents." said Vanessa.

Congratulations Lupita De Loa! Lupita graduated Cum Laude from California State University, Fresno. She received a Bachelor's of Art degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in STEM (science technology engineering and mathematics). Lupita will return to Fresno State this fall to obtain her multiple subject teaching credentials.

"My mom continues to be involved in my education. Thank you PIQE for empowering her and providing her with the necessary tools to support my education. Since she first took the program nine years ago (2007), she has been actively involved in my education.  Parent engagement is important!" said Lupita.
