BOSTON MARATHON RACE RECAPS

MEN'S OPEN RACE

Warm temperatures did not deter Kenya's Geoffrey Kirui in the slightest as he stormed from Hopkinton to Boston in his Boston Marathon debut, winning the men's title in 2:09:37. Kirui battled American Galen Rupp through the race's later stages, though a blistering 4:28 23rd mile would propel the Kenyan to glory.

WOMEN'S OPEN RACE

Edna Kiplagat's rivals had no answer to a sudden surge with six miles remaining in the 121st Boston Marathon. An experienced veteran racing Boston for the first time, Kiplagat bid her time before striking with a 5:02 mile that dropped both American Jordan Hasay and Bahrain's Rose Chelimo. Kiplagat broke the tape triumphantly in 2:22:51.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S WHEELCHAIR RACE

A tailwind and warm, dry weather helped set the stage for fast times in the push rim wheelchair division at the 121st Boston Marathon. For the third year in a row, Switzerland's Marcel Hug stole the show in a tight contest with legendary 10-time winner Ernst van Dyk of South Africa. Though both men finished in 1:18:04, Hug raised the Champion's trophy and secured the Abbott World Marathon Majors Series X title.

Manuela Schar took center stage in Hopkinton and never looked back, winning the women's wheelchair race from gun to tape. Not only did Schar dominate by nearly five minutes, she established a new course record and world best time of 1:28:17 in the process.

ABBOTT TIPS TO RACE THROUGH RECOVERY

From your first moments on Main Street in Hopkinton, months of training carried you. They cheered you at Wellesley. You zipped by Newton's Fire Station. It wasn't easy, but you conquered Heartbreak Hill. Never has a gas station sign been a more welcomed sight. Bless you, CITGO sign.

26.2 miles. You covered them all.

Now it's time for your next one: Recovery. Before you rush back into your sneakers, remember that starting back too strong, too quickly could lead to injury. In the first days immediately following your marathon:
  • Lightly cross-train (swim, bike, walk) to get your blood flowing again.
  • Eat a diet heavy in protein and carbohydrates (fruit and whole grains).
  • A light massage will do you well.
  • Toward the end of the first week, you can start running at an easy pace. Just a few miles.
  • For lingering injuries or stiffness, consider a deep-tissue massage.
  • By the second week, you can go longer - four to six miles per run, still at an easy pace.
You're on your way back to your regular regimen. As you tapered down to your marathon, you have tapered back up to training.

At Abbott , we celebrate what people can achieve when they're at their healthiest. We keep your heart healthy, nourish your body at every stage of life, help you feel and move better, and bring you information, medicines and breakthroughs to manage your health.

We work every day to help people like you live your best life.
NEW ENGLAND ACURA IS ON THE MOVE

The Boston Marathon is over, but the New England Acura Dealers are still offering you the opportunity to set the pace in a new Acura. Every vehicle in the Acura lineup was featured as an official Boston Marathon pace car on Monday, with the 2017 Acura NSX supercar and the custom-painted "We Are Boston" MDX leading the way with the grand marshals on board. The Set the Pace Sales Event is still going on through April 23, so don't miss out on your chance to drive luxury for less.

The New England Acura dealers consider themselves to be truly blessed as sponsors of the Boston Marathon, and we enjoyed every moment of this sunny marathon weekend. From creating cheer posters at our booths in Wellesley and Brookline, to the pre-race pasta dinner, to the awards ceremony and rocking after party, and seeing our 15 sponsored runners take on the racecourse, we were reminded of the honor it is to be a part of the Boston community.

In honor of our love of Boston, we created this 360 virtual reality tour of all our favorite spots in this great city. Visit https://www.youtube.com/user/NEAcuraDealers  to experience the sights and sounds of Boston in 360 VR.
