It has been a long time since sponsors pulled their ads for TV incidents like Billy Crystal playing openly gay Jodie Dallas on the sitcom "Soap," two gay men embracing after having sex on the drama "thirtysomething," and the first on-screen kiss between two women on "L.A. Law."
Adweek
Responses to Dove's racially insensitive clip of a black woman appearing to shed her body for a "cleaner" white version in a now-removed Facebook post promoting the brand's body wash provided a reminder that the ad industry is still very much divided. The full video included three women with differing skin tones, and social media users compared it to more blatantly racist "whitewashing" ads from the 19th century.

PROGRAMMING

PR Newswire
NASA will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the James Webb Auditorium in the agency's headquarters in Washington on Thursday, Oct. 12, with a discussion of the contributions of Hispanics to NASA's mission and the importance of Hispanic representation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and careers.
Variety
Thede is about to become TV's only female African-American late-night host, launching "The Rundown" on Viacom's BET this Thursday night. At a time when NFL players are protesting the way people of color are treated and the President of the United States' view of women and minorities is often called into question, her take on popular culture and politics might be of interest to more than BET regulars.

Deadline
Warrior, Cinemax's upcoming Tong Wars drama series from Fast & Furious' Justin Lin and Banshee co-creator Jonathan Tropper, has assembled an international cast, led by British actor Andrew Koji, and has tapped Assaf Bernstein (Netflix's Fauda) to direct the pilot. The 10-episode series, inspired by the writings and work of martial arts icon Bruce Lee, is slated to begin production on Oct. 22 in Cape Town, South Africa.

The idea behind the brilliant and much-recommended BBC America series Queers is deceptively simple: eight face-to-camera monologues featuring eight brilliant actors bringing to life the imagined experiences of eight (mostly male) gay characters.
