TORAH PORTION

Shof'tim ... Judges
Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9
You shall appoint magistrates and officials for your tribes, in all the settlements that the Eternal your God is giving you, and they shall
govern the people with due justice. - Deuteronomy 16:18

SUMMARY:
  • Laws regarding both sacred and secular legislation are addressed. The Israelites are told that in every dealing they should pursue justice in order to merit the land that God is giving them.
    (16:18-18:8)
  • The people are warned to avoid sorcery and witchcraft, the abhorrent practices of their idolatrous neighbors. (18:9-22)
  • God tells them that should an Israelite unintentionally kill another, he may take sanctuary in any of three designated cities of refuge. (19:1-13)
  • Laws to be followed during times of peace and times of war
    are set forth. (19:14-21:9)

Boy Scouts of America  Ner Tamid
Religious Emblem Class
starting in October

A few years ago, CNT families came together to teach our sons Cub Scout curriculum to earn the Aleph Award for religious education. Our passion for scouting extends to their faith, and our families wanted to create another enriching experience for them to combine two integral attributes of their lives. The CNT Education Committee is thrilled to offer an opportunity for Boy Scouts ages 11 - 14 years old. A five-class curriculum will be offered starting in October for any CNT member who would like to earn the
BSA Ner Tamid religious emblem. Please contact Erin Moore at [email protected] to sign up for the class by September 10.

The CNT Education Committee has information on the Menorah Award
for Girl Scouts in Grades 7, 8 and 9, as well as other awards for
various ages. Please contact us if you have a Girl Scout interested in earning an award. We can't wait to see what the boys will contribute to our community as they earn the next religious emblem.

SPONSOR AN ONEG!
If you would like to sponsor an oneg for a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary, birth of a child or grandchild, but don't have time, contact the Ritual Committee at [email protected].
Let them know what occasion you will be sponsoring the
oneg for, how many you are expecting and send payment to
the Ritual Committee, and they will set everything up!
