GIFTS
This week's Torah portion is Terumah, Gifts.
In it, we see Moses receive instructions to accept gifts from everyone moved to give. The needs are enumerated: from the precious, like gold and silver, to the more mundane, like yarns, oils, and spices, to the now obscure, like acacia wood, dolphin skins, and lapis lazuli. Furthermore, the Almighty instructed Moses to let them "make me a mikdash, a holy place, that I may dwell among them." This guidance left room for every member of the community
to contribute in any way they could, whether it was physical materials, manual labor, or personal creativity,
and it was this combination of mutual investments
and shared experienced that made the place holy.

Today our needs are different, yet they are also the same.
We don't need "dolphin skins", and we wouldn't know where to find them if we did, but we do still need a holy place. For us, that place is CNT, and that place still requires funding, materials, labor,
and creativity. In case you're unaware, membership dues and religious school fees alone do not allow us to continue.
They don't even cover our basic expenses. We try to manage
the fiscal burden, so that we remain an open and inclusive congregation to all. What that means is that all these years
later, it is the gifts, all the personal voluntary contributions,
the investment and the involvement, that keep CNT going.

As you consider this week's Torah portion and how the ancient Israelites contributed to the creation of their first mikdash, give some thought to how you can contribute to ours. Our needs are still great and enumerable. We need: funds, committee leaders and committee members, event organizers and event participants, service leaders and service attendees, creativity,
commitment, and love.

Please contribute in any way you can.  If you don't know
where to start, an email to  info@mynertamid.org, including your general interests, will reach the leadership, and we can work together to accept your personal gifts.

Thanks,
Rob Goldstein,  Vice President

Mitzvah Moments

 NOAH MOORE
March 24, 2018
For my Bar Mitzvah project, I will be working with  Live Safe
to help their efforts in providing social services and emergency housing to victims of, domestic violence, elder abuse, and sexual assault.
My project centers on helping the families who receive these critical services. In many cases the clients of LiveSafe must leave their current living situation with little or no notice, to escape from violence and abuse. Many essential items are left behind such as, basic toiletries. I will be collecting the following items to help them. Please new or unopened items only.
  • Toothpaste  *  Deodorant  *  Shampoo * Conditioner
  • Feminine pads * Floss * Tooth brushes * Lotion * Soap
  • Travel pillows (unused or new) * Twin sheet sets

As part of my bar mitzvah project, I will be helping a shelter for
homeless teens, Covenant House, by collecting socks for the teens
sheltered there. At Covenant House, homeless teens are sheltered
and cared for, but they are always in need of new clothes and other necessities. Please donate any new or unused socks you can to these
homeless teens. I will have a collection bin at the temple,
or you can find me most Sunday mornings and Friday nights.
