Vayikra ... [God] Called Out
Leviticus 1:1−5:26
The Eternal One called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying: "Speak to the Israelite people and say to them: When any of you presents an offering of cattle to the Eternal: You shall choose your offering from the herd or from the flock." - Leviticus 1:1-2
SUMMARY:
- God instructs Moses on the five different kinds of sacrifices that were to be offered in the sanctuary:
- The olah or "burnt offering" was a voluntary sacrifice that had a high degree of sanctity and was regarded as the "standard" offering. The entire animal, except for its hide, was burned on the altar. (1:1-17)
- The minchah or "meal offering" was a sacrifice made of flour, oil, salt, and frankincense that was partly burned on the altar and partly given to the priests to eat. (2:1-16)
- The zevach sh'lamim or "sacrifice of well-being" was a voluntary animal offering from one's herd, sometimes brought to fulfill a vow. (3:1-17)
- The chatat or "sin offering" was an obligatory sacrifice that was offered to expiate unintentional sins. This offering differs from the others in the special treatment of the blood of the animal. (4:1-5:13)
- The asham or "penalty offering" was an obligatory sacrifice of a ram that was required chiefly of one who had misappropriated property. (5:1-26)

This past week has given me a new appreciation of what is truly important in life - family, friends and community. It has blown away all the petty concerns of who said what to whom, personal agendas, and small issues that take our valuable time. We only have so much time to spend on the people we care about. The people that are important to you is what needs to be focused on.
My CNT community is important to me, so I'd like to thank the board - Rob Goldstein, Elizabeth Poguntke, Julie Segal, Wendy Meyer, Bob Huebsch, Bob Abrams, Heather Pacin, and Johanna Kohler for covering for me during this time. Rabbi Prass, for calling me on Sunday to talk and ask if there was anything he could do for me. Everyone who has made donations in memory of my father, Robert Gutenstein, this means so much to everyone in my family. I will be personally thanking each of you.
Now, there are other opportunities to support CNT. The Heidi Meyer Camp Scholarship Fund which helps our families attend Jewish summer camp is looking for donations. This is a way to impact our children to make lifelong friends and expand and extend their Jewish culture.
Amazon is tripling the donation amount to 1.5% when customers make their first eligible smile.amazon.com purchase from March 12 - 31. If you are ordering anything on Amazon, please go to smile.amazon.com, search for Congregation Ner Tamid of Marietta, select us as your supporting charity and place your order. It is a great way to donate to us without any expense to you!
Finally, we are planning our annual meeting which will take place on April 22 at 12:15 in the sanctuary. Please make plans to attend to understand how we are doing and our plans for the future.

Mitzvah Moments
NOAH MOORE
March 24, 2018
For my Bar Mitzvah project, I will be working with
Live Safe
,
to help their efforts in providing social services and emergency housing to victims of, domestic violence, elder abuse, and sexual assault.
My project centers on helping the families who receive these critical services. In many cases the clients of LiveSafe must leave their current living situation with little or no notice, to escape from violence and abuse. Many essential items are left behind such as, basic toiletries. I will be collecting the following items to help them. Please new or unopened items only.
- Toothpaste * Deodorant * Shampoo * Conditioner
- Feminine pads * Floss * Tooth brushes * Lotion * Soap
- Travel pillows (unused or new) * Twin sheet sets

As part of my bar mitzvah project, I will be helping a shelter for homeless teens, Covenant House, by collecting socks for the teens sheltered there. At Covenant House, homeless teens are sheltered and cared for, but they are always in need of new clothes and other necessities. Please donate any new or unused socks you can to these homeless teens. I will have a collection bin at the temple,
or you can find me most Sunday mornings and Friday nights.
