TORAH PORTION
B'reishit ... In the Beginning
Genesis ...1:1−6:8
When God was about to create heaven and earth, the earth was a chaos, unformed, and on the chaotic waters' face there was darkness.
- Genesis 1:1-:2
SUMMARY:
- God creates the world and everything in it in six days and rests on the seventh. (1:1-2:3)
- Adam and Eve are placed in the Garden of Eden, where they eat the forbidden fruit and are subsequently exiled. (2:15-3:24)
- Adam and Eve have two sons, Cain and Abel. Cain kills his brother, Abel. (4:1-24)
- Adam and Eve have another child named Seth. The Torah lists the ten generations from Adam to Noah. (4:25-5:32)
- God regrets having created human beings and decides to destroy everything on earth, but Noah finds favor with God. (6:5-6:8)

"
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end." - Closing Time by Semisonic
That line reminds me of Simchat Torah as we end our yearly reading and begin anew. We are closing out this fall holiday season this weekend with multiple celebrations of beginnings.
On Friday night we will be having the largest group of children being Consecrated - 10 - since I have been a member at CNT. This will be the formal acknowledgement of them beginning their Jewish education. The Torah will be laid out for them to see. This is an inspiring sight. If you have not taken advantage of this opportunity before please find time to attend.
Additionally, this is our fall ISJL weekend. Our fellow, Sierra Debrow, will be assisting the Rabbi on Friday, the youth group with game night on Saturday, and running special programs at Religious School and Youth Group on Sunday. Special thanks to the Baskin family for hosting Sierra's visit.
This will be a youth and family weekend at CNT.
See you Friday night.
