TORAH PORTION
Noach ... Noah
Genesis 6:9−11:32
This is Noah's chronicle. Noah was a righteous man; in his generation,
he was above reproach: Noah walked with God. -
Genesis 6:9
SUMMARY:
- God decides to cause a flood that will destroy the world, sparing only Noah's family and the animals that Noah gathers together on the ark. (6:9-8:22)
- Life starts over again after the Flood. The Noahide Commandments are listed, and God uses a rainbow to make a symbol of the first covenant. (9:1-17)
- People start to build a city and the Tower of Babel. God scatters the people and gives them different languages to speak. (11:1-9)
- The ten generations from Noah to Abram are listed. (11:10-29:2)

This has been an exciting week. We had great involvement at our Simchat Torah service. Rabbi Prass, with help from our ISJL fellow Sierra Debrow, ran a fun engaging family service for over 40 people. Both Torahs were laid out on tables with everyone gathered around to see as much as possible. Everyone was amazed at the beauty of the Torahs, as well as the education provided by the Rabbi.
The service continued with the consecration of our 10 new religious school students. The ages ranged from 3 year old Mateo to 11 year old Jordan. Their teachers each held the corners of multiple tallit while the Rabbi blessed them. It was a very moving experience.
This weekend is just as big. Friday night and Saturday morning are services celebrating the Bar Mitzvah of Ethan Goldstein. We are expecting another full house. Sunday, the upper grades will be taking a field trip to the Breman Museum, along with their parents, for a tour coordinated by the Rabbi. We have over 30 signed up for this educational event.
Education is not the only way we want our youth to grow. We want to encourage meeting, socializing, and learning with other Jewish kids in the area. Our youth group has already visited another congregation in Columbus. Once school is over, we are promoting opportunities for our children to attend Jewish summer camp. We have a scholarship fund, which you can donate to, to help lower the costs for CNT families and we are working on bringing in representatives from different area camps.
Included in this issue is information about a Camp Coleman event in Sandy Spring you can sign up for. See below for more details.
