Deuteronomy 11:26-16:17

See, this day I set before you blessing and curse. - Deuteronomy 11:26

Shabbat Candle Lighting 8:03 pm on Friday, August 18, 2017

This week I am going to talk about our monthly Middot -KEHILLAH. Building a supportive social environment and community at CNT.

Middot is the group of essential Jewish character values. The Religious School, with the help of ISJL, has put together a yearlong program focusing on a value of the month. Since these values transcend the school, both Rabbi and I will be reinforcing them with all of the CNT Kehillah.

This month, our Kehillah has been especially strong. We started with a back to school celebration which included a Membership tent, food, and service in the round. Book club met to discuss the book Orphan Number Eight. Tuesday night Mah Jong, Hebrew classes, committee meetings, leading up to the Back to School Shabbat service, a standing room only Bar Mitzvah (congratulation Gabe Bingham), and a Religious School parent meeting. Finally, this past Sunday, over 50 members and their families had a great time eating, playing and schmoozing at our annual CNT community picnic.

There are so many people to thank that if I start, I'm sure I will leave some out so I will thank the committee heads: Education - Bob Heubsch, Membership - Bob Abrams, Ritual - Sue Goldstein, Robert Goldstein and Rabbi Prass, Communications - Wendy Meyer and Johanna Kohler, B'nai Mitzvah- Robin Flake and Julie Berenson and Religious School - Elaine Gutenstein and Rebecca Sussman.   This week was the CNT Kehillah at its best.

We are not slowing down at all. The rest of the month is pack with ways to
be involved. We have our regular activities: Religious School, Hebrew, Mah Jong and Friday night services, as well as several special events. Saturday night is a Woman's Group dinner at Red Sky Tapas. The following Shabbat is the Bar Mitzvah of Gabe Berris. Sunday morning at 10:30 the Rabbi will be having an Adult Education class on Rosh Hashanah in the sanctuary.

Please let me, one of the committee heads, or the board know what ideas you have for strengthening and expanding our Kehillah.

Adult Education High Holy Day Series:
BRINGING THE HIGH HOLY DAYS
INTO FOCUS
Two discussions led by Rabbi Prass

Sunday, August 27, 10:30 am - noon
Sunday, September 17, 10:30 am - noon

Enrich your mind and soul as we delve into some of the central
themes and texts of the High Holy Days. The Rosh Hashanah session on August  27 will look at the history of the holiday from its origins in the Bible to its celebration marking the birthday of the world.

At Yom Kippur, tradition says we should engage in reflection,
soul searching and redirection. The Yom Kippur session on
September 17 will examine some of the central texts of Yom Kippur
to prepare us to focus on a new and better year.

Members RSVP to education@mynertamid.org or call 678-264-8757.
