NEWS & NOTES     Keeping you connected with camp

Summer camp is almost here and you can feel the excitement in the air at True Friends. The gorgeous Minnesota weather has finally arrived, and it was worth the wait. Warm breezes in the trees and glimmering waves on the lakeshore seem to beckon each of us to savor the outdoors.

  Getting ready!
Staff and volunteers are here...campers soon to follow

There are only a few days until summer camp begins!  We're getting everything ready for our summer campers - from staff trainings to fueling up the pontoons. Our name may be new, but our mission is still the same - to provide life-changing experiences and adventures. If you've just emerged from your winter hibernation, there are still a few spots open, so

 True Friends in the news

True Friends was featured on metro TV news three times in May! In case you missed any of the segments, you can watch them all here.
Camper Spotlight
You can bet our friend, Brian, will be at camp this summer. His nickname is 'Dewby' and he loves camp. He's been to Camp Courage multiple times. At camp, Brian is always smiling. He loves the pool and hanging out by the lake. Brian communicates with a yes/no system. He also has memorized more than 1,000 numbers that coordinate to a word list. Dewby loves to chat with the counselors.

"We have saved every letter and booklet from camp over the last couple years that we read to him almost every night. Brian said no to every pair of shoes until I decorated them with Camp Courage stuff. He literally lives for camp."

-From Brian's Program Manager at his residence

We are excited to welcome two new volunteer groups to camp:

National Charity League will be working at Camp Eden Wood during summer programming. NCL aims to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. This year we plan to offer 108 families the opportunity to volunteer with core programming.

Fields of Grace is a parish in western Minnesota that will provide our Youth Development & Leadership program with volunteers at Camp Friendship.

Three amazing events raised money for camp in May

The "Express Yourself" Style Show raised $3,650 for camp through a fun fashion show that brought over 100 people to Classic Hall in Annandale. The Annandale Snowmobile Club held a Steak Fry for 300 people at Camp Friendship. The event featured a delicious meal and raffle and raised $8,000 for camp. Finally, Picha Farms held their Annual Plant Sale in Eden Prairie, choosing to support True Friends- Camp Eden Wood this year. The sale lasted for two weeks and raised $2,000 for camp.

Thank you to everyone involved for supporting camp!

...spend their time jazzing up journals for campers!

We had over 50 volunteers from Target and a camp partner HandsOn Twin Cities work together to create beautiful, snazzy and fun journals for our campers to use this summer. Thank you Target and HandsOn Twin Cities!
