Live the Pledge

On Sunday, UUCA initiated our Live the Pledge movement -- an initiative to work -- as individuals and as a community -- to end racism. Following the service, Rev. Aaron challenged us to sign the pledge (Read Pledge here). Hundreds of UUCAers -- young and old -- lined up to take the challenge.  (Missed signing? The banner is available 24/7 in the narthex area for signing.)

On Wednesday night, a panel discussion on racism was held with Chioma Iwuoha, a representative from the Black Lives Matter-DC, and Laura Bradshaw, from Standing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ), and UUCAer Tracey Rogers as MC. At least 150 from UUCA and the community showed up for what was a sometimes difficult, but, open and honest, discussion on racism. Watch for the audio recording in next week's issue.

So, what's next? UUCA will continue to offer a variety of anti-racism initiatives. Stay informed -- read this newsletter -- follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay abreast on the latest initiatives. And, below is information on upcoming UUCA initiatives and events to help you Live the Pledge:
  1. Sign up to be a Covenant Group that focuses on reflections on racism, justice, and white privilege. Watch Connections and your email for sign ups.
  2. Attend the VOICE Action October 16, 3:30 p.m. at Oakton High School. Register HERE.
