Kendall Square/MIT: Innovation Playground
MIT’s Office of Government and Community Relations invites the greater Cambridge community to “Kendall Square/MIT: Innovation Playground,” an interactive HUBweek showcase of art, science, and technology in the most innovative square mile on the planet. The event will feature cutting-edge hands-on activities for all ages starting at 12:00 pm, culminating in a groundbreaking ceremony at 5:00 pm to mark the start of construction of the Institute’s newest graduate student residence hall. The interactive activities will continue until the event wraps up at 8:00 pm. The groundbreaking ceremony will also celebrate the installation of a community-based mural along Main Street in the heart of Kendall Square — created by the Community Art Center’s Teen Media Program. A reception will follow. As a HUBweek Spoke Event, all activities are free and open to the public! Activities from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm will include: First-Person View Drone Racing (note: ends at 5:00 pm) Interactive LEGO Model of the Kendall Square Initiative Laser Graffiti Augmented Reality GIF Photo Booth Community Art Center’s Art Truck

Remarkable pianist Christopher Taylor is the featured performer of Longy’s 2017 Gessner-Schocken Concert Series. He will present an evening of works inspired by other composers; you’ll hear Corgliano quote—and Liszt rework—Beethoven, and Rachmaninoff borrow Schubert. You may experience a case of musical mistaken identity. This concert series is generously funded by the family of Ruth Gessner- Schocken.

Longy has strong French connections, but we are embracing something that the Germans perfected. Our SeptemberFest celebration has moved to October! Journey with us into the land of bier, wurst, and pretzels in 20th century Berlin. Prost!

Berlin 1961-1989 “Isn’t this where we came in?” The Berlin Wall was a physical divide that demarked an ideological one, as well. This concert will feature music written in the era of divided Germany, from the rise of the USSR to Pink Floyd, and will include personal reflections from those who lived in this time of splintered national identity.
