Scaffold Law Reform: Gov. Cuomo says "We'll Try Again" on Reform
On a November 16 article, the Scaffold Law Reform Coalition highlighted WHEC-10's segment, "New York State Exposed", where Governor Andrew Cuomo said "we'll try again" in response to whether or not he would push for Scaffold Law reform in the upcoming legislative session.

The program, titled "The one law adding $10,000 to the cost of a new home" focused on the history of the New York-only Scaffold Law and the costly impact of the law's liability rules on all construction in the state.

Senators Joe Robach, Rich Funke, Patrick Gallivan, Michael Ranzenhofer, and Rob Ortt along with Assemblymembers Joe Morelle, Bob Oaks, Brian Kolb, Stephen Hawley, Peter Lawrence, and Joe Errigo all offered their support in fixing the law.

In September, a group of Assembly Democrats sent a letter to Governor Cuomo urging him to include Scaffold Law reform in the 2018 Executive Budget. Senator Fred Akshar joined Assemblyman John McDonald in introducing a bill to reform the law to a standard of comparative negligence.

We encourage our members and contacts throughout the industry to contact the Office of the Governor of New York at 518.474.8390 to request that Scaffold Law reform be a priority in the budget process and the next legislative session!
