New Release:
Exploring the Case for Corporate Context-Based Water Targets

More companies than ever before are setting water targets, yet global water stress continues to rise. How can companies ensure that their water targets align with meaningful outcomes? A new paper released by the CEO Water Mandate (a project of the Pacific Institute and the UN Global Compact), CDP, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), World Resources Institute (WRI), and WWF calls for metrics and targets that take into account the unique contexts of the basins in which companies operate, recognizing physical and social thresholds.

Imagine H2O Water Policy + Innovation Summit 

The winners of the Imagine H2O 2017 California Water Policy Challenge have been announced.  Pacific Institute Water Program Director Heather Cooley served on the judging panel for the challenge, which sources policy ideas to accelerate the deployment of innovative water data technologies. 

On May 16, join Imagine H2O in Sacramento, California for an interactive discussion with the winning teams and a diverse group of stakeholders.

Where the Water Goes: Life and Death Along the Colorado River

Every gallon of water flowing in the Colorado River is claimed or owned by someone, writes David Owen in his new book Where the Water Goes: Life and Death Along the Colorado River. The book, which features Senior Research Associate Michael Cohen, traces the river's water from its headquarters to its terminus, now a million-acre desert. The author, a frequent contributor to The New Yorker,  will be on tour this week.

On March 23, Michael Cohen participated in a panel at the Water Education Foundation's Annual Executive Briefing in Sacramento, California. He joined state and federal water leaders from Arizona, California, and Nevada to discuss the current status of Lake Mead, Lower Basin allocations, the potential for water shortages, the importance of the Salton Sea, the status of negotiations with Mexico, and the Lower Basin Drought Contingency Plan.
