Stand Up for Grain Engulfment Prevention Awareness Week | April 9 - 13
Welcome to National Grain and Feed Association's (NGFA) & Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA)
“Stand-Up for Grain Engulfment Prevention Awareness Week”
April 9 - 13, 2018
Made possible by the NGFA-OSHA Alliance in collaboration with Grain Elevator and Processing Society, stand-up week promotes grain bin safety on both farms and at commercial grain handling facilities.
TODAY'S TOPIC: MECHANICAL HAZARDS
All mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment shall be de-energized (turned off) and disconnected, locked and tagged, blocked off or otherwise prevented from operating by other equally effective means.
This specifically applies to equipment that presents a danger, particularly grain-moving equipment e.g. sweep augers, subfloor augers and grain entry points like spouts moving to or from bin.
Grain must not be emptied or moved into or out of the bin while workers are inside because it creates a suction that can pull theworker into the grain in seconds.
