February 16, 2018 - WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT
Beloved friends, in this season of repentance and healing,
we accept God's invitation to be ever-mindful of the needs of others,
offering our prayers on behalf of God's community in the church and the world.

I love to receive gifts. It's great to know that someone chose a gift especially for me.
Something I can use and enjoy. Did you know that God also gives us gifts? These gifts are carefully chosen for each of us. This Sunday we begin a new sermon series on the Gifts of the Spirit. If you’re well and in town this weekend, you’re invited to come and begin unwrapping God’s gifts for you!

Announcements & Important Information for the Week

New Sermon Series begins Sunday – “Gifts of the Spirit”
A spiritual gift is a God-given ability or talent that empowers and inspires a believer to effectively serve the body of Christ. Spiritual gifts are God-given, which is why Ephesians 4:7 says you “ However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ. ” your spiritual gift. You don’t earn it or apply for it. A spiritual gift is an ability, which means it qualifies you to do something you wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. Those who realize and use their spiritual gifts serve effectively in the body of Christ and their church.

Scripture Reading Sneak Peak

Romans 12:4-8 1
Corinthians 12:1, 4-11
Speak to God today, He is waiting to hear from you. We have been taught that God wants us to connect with him about our lives, our struggles and our successes. He is our Father and His love for us is great and powerful. Take time to talk to your Father at least once each day, tell Him all about your life, and give Him the opportunity to reply to you. Listen for His voice, and you will receive a precious gift; the gift of the Holy Spirit. This gift brings help for all your needs.

Building A House of Prayer
for Our Church & Community

This week pray as we begin Season of Lent
Lord, during this Lenten Season, nourish us with Your Word of life and make us one with You in love and prayer.

Almighty and Everlasting God,
You have given the human race
Jesus Christ our Savior as a model of humility.
He fulfilled Your Will by becoming Man
And giving His life on the Cross.
Help us to bear witness to You
By following His example of suffering
And make us worthy to share in His Resurrection.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son.
Amen.

Collecting Hygiene
Kit Materials
When disaster strikes and our Sisters and Brothers are in time of tragedy, many of us want to “do something to help”. We will begin putting together hygiene kits this month to help provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. UMCOR collects hygiene, school, and cleaning kits for distribution within the United States. Kits help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies when a disaster strikes.
There are bags available at the back of the sanctuary that include a detailed list of items to place in the bags and then return them by March 18 th .
