Insights from 2011
This year has been filled with joy, happiness and some life changing events. The things that impacted me most in 2011 include the following; becoming a board member for DTC CBW, disengaging from a corporate consulting contract, the ten year mark of 9/11, a family trip to Disney World, the loss of my aunt, the loss of my cat, and the addition of a new furry family member. All this in addition to all the wonderful daily things going on with my family and business made for a very memorable year.
As each event transpired I was in the moment, absorbing and learning as much as I could. After each experience, I felt like I had grown and was in a different place with a different point of view.
At the beginning of December I was trying to put the pieces together - trying to see what the common thread or learning was for the year. I came to the conclusion that the common theme was community. While I have always believed in having a strong community with family, neighbors, business etc, the events of this year struck me to the core.
What I realized is that through every joyous moment, every heart wrenching experience, and every challenge or success, I relied HEAVILY on one of the communities mentioned above to celebrate, to grieve, to ponder and to experience.
My communities provided me the strength and support I needed to not only push through, but push forward. My communities have given me connection (my top value) with every step and stumble.
How I am choosing to take this forward is to make a conscious effort to build community. Not just come to it by default. I am taking action such that you will see me more active in each of my communities. You will also see me providing opportunities to build new communities through workshops and tele-classes and I will be sharing information (events, articles, etc) of the communities that I belong to and find value in.
As you have likely experienced, life brings a wide variety of events and experiences that evoke learning, emotion, pondering, growth and opportunity. The coaching question is... what insights from 2011 will make you take action.

|Goal Setting Tips|
When I work with clients on goal setting, they typically are already past the "SMART" (Specific Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely) phase. They understand what a SMART goal is and have attempted but not yet succeeded.
We start with the SMART goal but then include the 4 W's (What, When, Why, and Who).
What - what are the positive and negative payoffs (and believe me there are always some) for achieving the goal?
When - this is part of the SMART goal but also includes looking at all areas of life that are impacted by the timing of working toward and meeting the goal.
Why - Why do you want to reach this goal?
Who - Who will be impacted as you are working toward and once you reach the goal.
Many people look at the "Why" and adding that deeper layer of the "Who" allows for an even stronger connection to the goal.
In my coaching I have found that applying the 4 W's in goal setting provides the foundation and inspiration needed to reach any goal you set.

CMM Creative Strategies
I met Chere Martin through a networking organization we both belong to and found her professionalism and demeanor to be inline with the type of people I love to work with.

A not-so-gentle reminder to "Live by the Golden Rule"

I have known Anthonette Klinkerman for almost a year and have had the good fortune of hearing her lessons at various networking events and presentations.
I recently purchased her book and found it to be a wonderful reminder of the "p's & q's" my parents taught me.
As a woman in my 40's I have lived polite "seen and not heard" child years, the disrespectful teen years, the "expressing myself" early adult years and now am in the "courtesy and respect" years. Courtesy and respect are something that I, and many colleagues, place a high value.
Courtesy is defined as politeness and good manners but at a deeper level is about respecting ourselves and others so that we can live harmoniously.
Courtesy Bootcamp contains poignant examples, suggestions and rules of courtesy. It is about the common courtesy that is not so common - but definitely need to be!
This book serves as a great education piece (or reminder) of the actions that speak louder than words regarding respect, courtesy and treating others as we would like to be treated.
It is about sending the right message to others...the message of respect.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs the reminders or who wants to remind others in their lives of the appropriate courtesy actions.
