Appalachian Regional Library's mascot, Arly the Fox, was named the Best Library Promotional Project for public libraries of its size across the state of North Carolina for the fiscal year 2015-2016.
The award was presented to the library director, Jane Blackburn, at the annual banquet of the North Carolina Public Library Directors' Association on December 1, 2016.

Thingummywut, Appalachian Regional Library's Literary Magazine, is now accepting submissions in Prose, Poetry, and Visual Art for its 8th issue! Submissions are open to youth ages 18 and under.
Prose must be 2500 words or less.
Artwork may be submitted in its original format or a digital photo of the original may also be turned in. Include Name, Age, Email, and Phone Number with your entry.
Bring submissions to the Youth Services Desk at the Watauga County Public Library or email them to
jwinecoff@arlibrary.org
.
Submissions are due by January 10th!

Western Watauga Friends raffle a big success

Kathleen Lee, pictured right, was one of the winners of the Western Watauga Branch Friends of the Library's Gift Basket Raffle. Gift baskets featured donations from the Western Watauga community. Dot Gragg won the second gift basket available and the the raffle brought $880 to the Western Watauga Friends group! Thanks to all who participated in the raffle and helped support the Western Watauga Branch Friends!

New Regional Website is Live
Appalachian Regional Library announces its new website, which launched on Nov. 1. The site replaces the former one, and serves residents in
Ashe,
Watauga and
Wilkes counties.

Collecting coats and hats

The large, wrapped box in the foyer of the library is being used for winter clothing donations. Please feel free to drop off coats, hats, mittens, and other winter clothing to help those in need this season. Visitors should also feel free to take an item from the box. Donations will be brought to the Hospitality House after a month.
