Changing life's circumstances
Joanne's journey began when she was injured on the job working as a cashier. Despite receiving the incorrect amount in workman's compensation, Joanne continued to work but was soon let go.
As a means of income, Joanne began renting rooms out of her Costa Mesa home but experienced numerous negligent roommates. Ultimately she lost her home due to foreclosure.
Her seemingly bad luck continued with a host of unfortunate circumstances including: the transmission in her car breaking down, her foreclosure money being sent to the wrong county, the car being towed and a bad stay with a neighbor.
Joanne ultimately ended up on the streets four months after losing her home.
The Crossing Church coupled with the LOTS program offered the much-needed support to help Joanne change her unfortunate set of circumstances.
She met an outreach worker for the city of Costa Mesa at the Life On the Streets ministry at the Crossing Church held Saturday mornings. They began to build a relationship and together began to work on gaining access to her Social Security benefits, including her pension.
Joanne researched other places to live and located a place in Costa Mesa at a senior complex where she continues to happily live.
“Bad stuff doesn't need to remain that way, if you’re willing to take the steps to change your life circumstances," Joanne said.
