Hello Fifth Grade Track and Field Parents,

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your time, commitment and unwavering dedication to the development of our young athletes. Your support helped make this year's 5th Grade Track Meet a huge success. Because of you, our Cougar boys and girls were able to experience another level of success.

In addition, I truly appreciate the hard work of Kristi Oldham and Nan Chandler. They worked tirelessly to provide an experience that our young athletes will never forget. They are amazing!

Again, thank you for investing in our awesome boys and girls!

It's a time for families to picnic together (bring your own picnic lunch) while students share the work from the year - their portfolio!  Bring your lunch and drinks, blankets to sit on, and any other picnic comforts.  Invite the WHOLE FAMILY!

If you did not return the form to let us know if you were coming or not, please email your child's teacher ASAP. We don't want a student to be left alone for the picnic time and need to plan for that.

The Hunters Creek 5th Grade Odyssey of the Mind team is heading to the World Finals Competition being held in Michigan!

After finishing first at the State level competition and receiving a coveted award for tremendous creativity, they will now be competing against teams from over 25 different countries!!

They will be  selling Dippin' Dots at Publisher's Picnic for $4 a package as team fundraiser to help finance their participation in the competition.  So add a sweet refreshing treat to lunch with your "publisher" and help send this amazing team to Michigan!

They greatly appreciate your support!
Both cash and credit cards will be accepted.

Please come by and pick up your child's medicines in the clinic before the last day of school. I will be disposing of all meds on June 2nd at the SBISD Police Department per district policy.
2017-2018 School Year: Forms for all medications must be signed every school year by parent and doctor.  Please bring all forms signed by parent and doctor with the medicine BEFORE the first day of school.  The clinic will be opened August 1st and you can email or call to set up a time to deliver.
***Do not send your student to the clinic with medicines at any time or hide meds in their lunch kit/backpack.  All medicines go through the nurse in the clinic.

All forms can be found at the link below. If prescription please have MD signature on prescription form.  Non-prescription for over the counter meds only needs parent signature.

Your future 6th grader will be getting vaccines at their next doctor visit.  Please provide their middle school nurse with their updated immunizations.  You may turn them into me if they have already received the vaccines so I can put in their file.  They are required for 7th grade but many receive prior to entry to 6th grade.

Counselor's Corner
By Andrea Chvatal

Our Leadership Council took a field trip to Casa de Esperanza on Monday to deliver all the items we collected for the children who live in the homes.

The students did an excellent job of collecting and had lots of questions about the children and adults who live there.  It was a wonderful "life moment" of learning how other children may live life as well as focusing on others, instead of our own needs.

My mother was a volunteer at Casa de Esperanza when I was about 6 years old.  I remember going to the house and playing with the children and what their home was like.  My mother told me that the children could not live with their parents at the time, so they lived at the home.  I'm sure I had more questions, but what I remember most was the love and peace in the home and how these children just wanted to play and have fun.  It was giving time and energy to those who needed it and my mother taught by example.  (Thank you Mom!)

When we intentionally give to others, we promote compassion, selflessness, empathy, and have a sense of unity with those with whom we gave and to those who receive.   I have found usually children love to give to others - ask your child what they would like to do to help someone and see what ideas they have.  Modeling a tradition of giving as a family will foster a heart of giving in your child.

4:30-6:30 pm
Before the Memorial Day weekend, Hunters Creek has planned an event honoring the many memorials we have on campus.  On Thursday, May 25 th we invite you join us as we honor and learn more about the memorials and the people that they commemorate.

These lost teachers and students have touched the lives of so many current and past HCE staff, students, and families.  Our Leadership Council, Mrs. Cummings and Mrs. Chvatal have planned a wonderful week of memories that will educate our current students and staff about the lives of these special, missed Cougars. We want all students and faculty to understand what each HCE memorial represents and why these people are so special to HCE.  We will end this sharing of memories with a special ceremony on May 25.

We will honor the following people and their memorials on HCE campus:

Robin Woods, HCE teacher
Kelly Sewell, HCE teacher
Nancy Ray, HCE teacher
Alana Harris Greenshaw, HCE student
Sam Schubert, HCE student
Nicole Lee, HCE student

We will also have a dedication ceremony for a garden that has been on campus for
several years that was started and maintained as a source of education by a retired teacher, Mrs. Jeanette Domaschk.
After 43 years of teaching at HCE, she still loves to return to campus to work in the garden when she gets the chance. We will be honoring her service and commitment to HCE that evening as well.

Thursday May 25th
Gather in the front of the school and walk with us as we visit each space and hear from students who have educated our school about each memorial.

Our two HCE softball teams made it to the 6U SBMSA Championship game.  The two teams - the Firecrackers & the Venom - were comprised of HCE girls from Kindergarten and First grade.  Both teams had a great season and it was a fun way to end the season with HCE teams taking first and second place in the Championship.

We have a wonderful volunteer, Karen Jean North - grandmother of HCE Cougars, who is heading up a group of voluteers to spruce up the gardens before the Memorial Ceremony on May 25.  They need help.

Come pull some weeds, spread some gravel, trim some bushes.  Here is a link to sign up if you can volunteer:
