What a fun day! We have another successful Family Fair and Raffle thanks to so many PTA volunteers!

All week our students have been putting their tickets in to win prizes and this morning we had the announcement - over 140 prizes were won!  Thanks to Kristen Ramsey and April Peavy for heading up this exciting event.

Also this week, students have been donating HUNDREDS OF DOZENS of confetti eggs. The grade level who donated them most dozens won a Kona Ice Truck Party. Congratulations to the 4th Grade Class!

Also thanks to our Family Fair chairs: Robyn Canterbury, Katie Clark, Alicia Kimmel and Carrye Krouse.  And thanks to all their worker bees!  It was fun for everyone.

Look for pictures on our facebook page:

HCE spellers Natalie Jones and Kylee Pham gave a valiant effort at the District Spelling Bee on February 22nd.  Kylee, tripped up by the word "obsequious," tied for 28th out of 45 spellers, while Natalie narrowly missed correctly spelling "hoomalimali," finishing in a tie for 20th place.  After eleven rounds of spelling, the bee was won by Sarah Hwang, a sixth grader at Memorial Middle School.  She will be representing SBISD in the Houston Public Media Spelling Bee on Saturday, April 1st.  Congratulations and good luck to Sarah!

WE NEED YOU!!   HELP - no one turned in an application so we have no new members!!!

Newly schedule drawing for our 2 vacant parent positions, 1 community rep position and 1 business rep position is next week, Wednesday, March 1 @ 8am.

Currently we have 1 business rep application. We need 2 parents and 1 community member.

Please consider serving on the Campus Improvement Team. We meet at least 6 times a year for an hour.

Parent Education - Improving Relationships With Your Child

March 6, 6:30 pm @ Memorial Drive Elementary, 11202 Smithdale Rd.

On March 6th at 6:30 p.m. we have a unique opportunity to hear one of my favorite licensed marriage and family therapists speak on improving relationships with your children.

Colleen O'Grady is based in Houston and has been serving clients for more than 20 years.  She is a wealth of information on so many topics ranging from brain functioning, human development, family systems, to parenting skills.  Memorial Drive Elementary will be hosting this event in their cafeteria for this one-hour talk- mark your calendars.

Will you attend with me?  I'll be in the front row.
PTA President's Perspective
It was so fun watching our Kinder, 1 st and 2 nd graders kicking up their heels last Friday.  Thank you to  Coach Thompson Coach Roberson, and  Coach Norris for coordinating such a fun event!  All the kids looked so cute in their cowboy and cowgirl clothes.
Another huge thank you goes to Nan Chandler, Claire Johnson and Brianna Cisarik for leading a group of brave parents who volunteered to help 4th & 5th grade students dissect cow eyeballs for Hands-on Science last week!  It is such a big job and we appreciate their efforts!
PTA Rally Day was Monday in Austin!  It was an experience I won't forget.  Denise Campbell and Kristi Thibaut did an amazing job leading PTA and PF3 members through meetings, visits, the Rally and more at the State Capital.  They have spent so much time and effort fighting to keep education dollars in education.  I encourage you to stay up to date on the issue and get involved!
Have a great weekend!

Lunch Duty Volunteers

We love our teachers so let's give them a little extra relaxation before spring break.

Sign up Here to cover a teacher's lunch duty next week (March 6-8th).

Only 30 minutes of your time will make your teacher's week!

Book Drive

Please donate ( Now until May 1st ) your gently used books to the HCE Summer Reading Book Exchange.  All levels of reader from 1st to 6th grade acceptable.  Please no picture only books or crossword or activity books.

All extra books collected will be donated to our sister school Woodview Elementary.

There is a blue recycling bin for collections in the HCE front lobby!

All students will visit the HCE library on Friday, May 19th to pick one book to read this summer and jumpstart their summer reading.  All HCE students will be able to choose a book regardless of whether or not they have donated a book.

We are looking for 3 volunteers to help with the HCE PTA financial reconciliation.

If you are good with numbers and processes we need you.  Please contact Katrina Stephenson if you are able to help! or 713-305-3277
