Welcome to the December / January ENEWS. I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season so far. Congratulations to all Flamborough residents who received the Flamborough-Glanbrook Canada 150 Nation Builder Award. Thank you Arend Kersten for 15 years of service to Flamborough, best wishes for the future. Everyone is invited to join me at the many events in the community, including a free skate at Harry Howell arena on Thursday December 28 from 12-2pm. Please join me at this year's New Year Levee, Waterdown Memorial Park on January 1 from 2-4pm- free hot chocolate, hot cider and hot dogs. Let's ring in the new year together!

Don't forget to please call or email my office if you need help with any issues. If you see me in the community, stop and say hi. 

UPDATE: Parkside Drive Construction

Staff has notified my office once again, that the construction on Parkside Drive from Braeheid Ave to Duncan Ave has been extended. The estimated construction completion of Parkside Drive should be done by December 30th. The construction work being completed is a major culvert replacement and bridge repair project.

Parkside Drive from Highway 6 to Hollybush Drive has been closed for a major portion of the construction, but is expected to re-open by next week. We will update further should more information be available to us. Thank you to everyone for your continued patience.

FICS Christmas Connection for Senior Gift Program

Flamborough Information and Community Services (FICS) is located in new Waterdown library, located at 163 Dundas St E. It provides community services and activities for seniors, such as grocery shopping, 55 Alive courses, luncheons Euchre and more. It also provides opportunities and activities for youth, including employment services, camp programs and workshops. To learn more, please click here.

FICS is asking for donations to their Christmas Connection for Seniors Gift Program. You can choose an individual senior’s wish list, or donate cash or gift cards for their volunteer elves to make purchases or stuff stockings. Donations are accepted at the Flamborough Review office at 55 Main St. or the Flamborough Information office at 163 Dundas St. E. Call 905-689-7880 for more info or to be matched with a senior.

Real McCoys Friday Night Hockey Games

When: Friday December 8, 15, 22, 29, 2017 and Friday January 5, 12, 19, 26, 2018

Bottle Drive Fundraiser

When: December 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018

Where: St. James United Church, 306 Parkside Dr, Waterdown

Bring your empty bottles and cans to St James United Church from December 1 until end of January. Money raised will go towards children's and youth programming. Bottles and cans can be left in the basket in the Narthex (entrance to the Sanctuary).
Habitat For Humanity- Catch The Ace event

When: Wednesdays

Time: 6:30 pm

Where: Waterdown Legion, 79 Hamilton St. N, Waterdown

Catch the Ace, a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity, is the Ontario version of the ‘Chase the Ace’ fundraiser. Ticket sales run from 6:30 to 8:30PM, during which you can play cards and socialize with others, and the draw is held at 9PM. The winner must be in attendance to claim their prize and choose a playing card for a chance to win the jackpot. Updates on progress and prize payouts will be available at www.habitathamilton.ca
Flamborough Food Bank Holiday Sale

Join the community at a Holiday Sale in support of the Flamborough Food Bank- over 30 vendors, and first 50 shoppers receive a swag bag. Admission is free.
Breakfast with Santa at Millgrove Community Hall

Dofasco Male Chorus Christmas Concert

The Dofasco Male Chorus invites you to a special Christmas Concert this season, along with the Dofasco Ladies Chorale Ensemble! As well they are excited to have brothers in song, the Canadian Orpheus Male Choir as a co-sponsor for what will be an “extravaganza” of song. Councillor Partridge would like to invite all residents in Flamborough Ward 14 and Ward 15 to a free family skate at FirstOntario arena (Copps Coliseum).

New Year's Eve Celebration

New Year Eve tickets are now available at the bar. Celebrate New Year’s Eve with us Ronnie & the Corvairs! There will be a delicious Chinese food buffet, noise makers, party hats, and Spumonti Bambino toast at midnight! Tickets are $30 per person and must be picked up by December 17th. Limited seating so get your tickets early- ticket sales have started so don’t miss out!

Councillor Partridge invites you to join the community for a New Year Levee- skate the loop at Memorial Park and warm up with hot treats, including hot chocolate, hot cider and hot dogs. All are welcome- bring the family!
Flamborough Horticultural Society Meeting

Living Rock Soupfest 16 Fundraiser

There are a number of events going on at the Waterdown Legion this season- all events and important information is listed at www.waterdownlegion.ca under “What’s Going On”.  

The legion will be closed December 23 rd at 6pm until the Dec 31st event (doors open at 7:00pm)

If you haven’t yet renewed your 2018 legion membership dues, please do so before December 31st.  If not renewed by that time, you are not considered in good standing. Please support your legion and renew now.

ABC’s co-operative pre-school program is unique and special in that staff, parents and children work, learn and grow together. It is a family based program administered by the parents in our community.

Planning has already begun for the 6th annual WinterChill tournament. We are expecting another great turn-out and interest has been growing every year. We have had to wait-list teams over the last couple years, so please register early!

Dundas Real McCoys

This season, the McCoys will call the fabulous Harry Howell Arena situated at Clappison’s Corners on Highway 5 and Highway 6 in Flamborough. The arena named in honour of former New York Rangers allstar and Hockey Hall of Fame defenceman Harry Howell will accommodate more than 1,000 spectators including standing room.

Ontario Works Case Manager

An Ontario Works Case Manager is now available twice monthly in the Flamborough/Waterdown area. Ontario Works provides temporary financial and employment assistance, also known as social assistance, for people who are in financial need. If you are in receipt of Ontario Works, or if you are interested in obtaining further information about the Ontario Works program please access drop in services at the following times and locations: 

All Individuals/families:
Where: Flamborough Food bank located at 1492 Centre Rd, Carlisle ON
When: 1-3:30pm on the 4th Wednesday of every month

Females only:
Where: Flamborough Woman's Resource Centre at 17 Main St S, Waterdown ON
When: 1pm-4pm on the 1st Monday of every month
The Ontario works Case Manager will be available to answer questions, provide referrals, potentially process paperwork and complete update appointments. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact OW Case Manager Karen at 905-546-4800 ext 1522.
Flamborough Women's Resource Centre

The Flamborough Women's Resource Centre (FWRC) has a variety of services and programs for women. To begin, individual Counseling supports women in making life decisions that are good for them. Specialized counselling for women who have, or are experiencing, mental or physical abuse is also available. The Transitional Support Program is available to link women to a variety of Flamborough community resources including assistance with housing supports. Legal advocacy assists women in navigating today's complicated legal systems including police, legal aid, family law, custody issues and immigration law. All of these services are private and confidential and located at the FWRC in Waterdown.

Waterdown Food Bank, Food With Grace

The Waterdown Food Bank is open to those in need every Tuesday from 2-6pm or by appointment. The Waterdown Food Bank has helped many residents over the years through difficult times, and continues to be a valued community service.

Flamborough Food Bank

Location: Carlisle United Church

Hours: Every Wednesday from 1pm-3pm and 7pm-8:30pm
 
The Flamborough Food Bank (FFB) is a not-for-profit, community based organization that supplements individual and family household food and personal care needs through community donations and resources. The FFB is open to anyone who is in need of food or personal care supplements. It also offers holiday assistance including Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas food hampers. Clients can only be registered with one food bank in the Hamilton area. Clients are welcome to come in every two weeks.
  
To register as a client, please fill out a registration form at the Carlisle United Church. The registration process requires: Photo ID, proof of residency, proof of income and major expenses. For more information, please  click here.
YFC Waterdown Youth Centre

YFC/YOUTH UNLIMITED Waterdown is committed to mentoring youth by offering programs and developing relationships that nurture the whole person - physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually. The Youth Centre welcomes all youth regardless of race, gender, or religion and offers a safe place for them to discover who they are.
