Dear Friends and Neighbors,
My good friend Assemblymember Anthony Portantino is unable to seek another term in the Assembly, due to term limits. He has done and continues to do a great job.
Eager to tackle the state of California's current challenges, and after nearly 22 years on the Pasadena City Council, I have decided (with the support of my family) to run for the California State Assembly representing the 44th District.
With more than a year before the June 2012 open primary, and encouraged by early endorsements from community leaders and elected officials I have served with or currently serve with such as: Mayor Bill Bogaard; former mayors Rick Cole and Bill Paparian; councilmembers Steve Madison, Terry Torneck, Marguerite McAustin, Steve Haderlein, Victor Gordo, Joyce Streator, Bill Crowfoot, Sid Tyler, Ann Marie Villicana, and Paul Little, I am off to a strong start and look forward to gaining even more support as the race progresses.
There is plenty to be done to engage the constituents of the 44th District while continuing to aggressively serve my council district and fulfill my duties.
Challenged by extreme economic problems at the state level, we will need the type of leadership that can better engage business and community leaders, as well as residents and stakeholders throughout the district--listening to their concerns and fighting for their future.
Balancing the state budget, increasing revenue, and eliminating the structural deficit are critical. Establishing priorities and identifying the appropriate resources that will re-establish California as a great state with endless opportunity will take all of us working and sacrificing together.
I am optimistic and confident that we can achieve great things.
Along the way, I look forward to hearing your thoughts for the future of our district and state--and seek your help throughout this campaign.
