The new semester always brings a fresh start and gives students and their families an opportunity to reevaluate the activities in which students are engaged. Many of our students are involved in athletics, arts, scouting, and other extracurricular activities both on and off campus. Most often these activities are a strength for them, as well as their favorite part of the day, a part of the day in which they can forget about academics and just have fun. However, extracurricular activities add time to their already busy academic day and leaving them with precious little time to complete any necessary homework. LSP students often spend double or triple the amount of time completing assignments as their peers which leads to frustration and eventually burnout. As a parent, you may not know the signs of burnout or even how to avoid burnout. To learn more about avoiding burnout

Offer choices! Being a dictator is not always the most effective way to build a relationship with your teen. It can prevent communication and promote rebellion. Sometimes it helps to offer your kids choices. By offering options your child feels like he or she has some control. Allow your teen the chance to help you in the decision-making process. Not only will it foster respect, but it will also teach your child how to make better decisions.
