Counseling Corner February 19, 2018

Dear Saints,

The Orange County community has suffered greatly within the early months of 2018. There are emotions of worry, confusion, anger, fear and sadness over several deaths by suicide that have claimed the lives of local teenagers. The recent press release from the  American Academy of Pediatrics, Orange County Chapter , points out:

"It is critical that we recognize that there is no singular cause or preventative measure that could have been taken to prevent these recent tragedies. As we consult with experts, it is becoming clear that meeting the social demands teens believe are placed upon them is a very real and often hidden distress factor and it can increase youths' risk of suicidal ideation. In the days, weeks and months ahead, we will be discussing how to combat those high stress messages and instead help teens understand that success is measure by so much more than an A on every test, or a championship season. More importantly, it is creating a sense of who they are, who they might become, and a belief that, like everyone, they are someone who matters!"

At Crean Lutheran High School, the Counseling Department holds steadfast to the theme verse during times like these. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, 'Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'" Reminding every single student that the Lord does have specific plans for their lives, that they are loved and cherished child of God, who desires to see them prosper, is something that is upheld on a daily basis at CLHS. Crean Lutheran counselors are credentialed, equipped, and trained to identify marked risk factors as well as aiding families in need with support and next steps. Additionally, CLHS has partnered with an agency, WITH Hope-The Amber Craig Memorial Foundation  to support families, a partnership spanning the last several years with suicide awareness and prevention, providing annual education and prevention strategies to CLHS faculty, staff, students and parents.

Thankfully, we have a loving Savior who we can trust, pray to, and rely on that is never changing. Our prayer at this time is that we may continue to successfully partner together in ensuring that our students understand that support is available to them, both at home and at school. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

In HIS Love,
Mrs. Garcia

UC Freshman Admission FAQ
Will grades below C and/or dropped courses affect my students' chances for admission? It is very important that students inform the UC Application Center immediately if they receive grades below a C in the fall/winter or have changes in their winter/spring class schedule. They can do so by notifying the UC Application Center by email or postal mail. Once a student receives an offer of admission, the student must notify the campus admission office directly of any deficient grades or schedule changes. Although students must notify UC of these changes, we cannot guarantee that a campus will go back to review an application after a communication has been received from the student.
