September 2016

We are busy getting ready for Shop Hop - just a week away!  The Woven Art pattern, exclusive for Shop Hoppers until January, is about to head to the printer.  Daily door prizes are arriving, and we are prepping a big box of yarn we held back just for Shop Hop. This is such a fun way to kick off Fall, and I hope you will participate!  This year we have four great shops hosting the event - along with Woven Art, you can visit Sticks and Strings in Lansing, Yarn Garden in Charlotte, and Stitch in Time in Howell.

Yesterday I took this photo while in the Porcupine Mountains State Park - it is Lake of the Clouds, with Lake Superior just peaking through the gap in the distance.  I have been really enjoying exploring more of Michigan!

Hope to see you very soon.

Quince and Company ~ Puffin, Owl, and Owl Tweet

Another shipment from Quince and Company - and we tore into the boxes as soon as they arrived. In our most recent shipment we received selections of Puffin, Puffin Heathers, Owl, and Owl Tweet.

Puffin is a 100% American wool, spun into a thick single with 112 yards per 100 grams.  This chunky weight yarn is substantial, and can be held doubled to turn it into a super bulky!  We currently have 17 colors.

Puffin - Kumlien's Gull

Owl is a 50% American wool, 50% New Zealand alpaca yarn plied into a worsted weight yarn with 120 yards per 50 grams. Spun and dyed in New England, Owl has a lovely hand with plenty of squish!  Owl Tweet is very similar to regular Owl, but has little slubs of wool to give it a tweed-like texture.  We have just a few colors of Tweet at the moment - we hope to stock more once it becomes available.

Thrummed Mittens

Fleece thrums form lovely contrasting stitches on the outside and soft warmth on the inside of these mittens. The warmth of your hands will help to secure your thrums by felting them together slightly. This class assumes that you are already comfortable with knitting in the round using double-pointed needles and will focus on the techniques involved in knitting thrums: making the thrums to be relatively uniform in size, knitting thrums securely, and following a thrummed pattern. We will also be covering knitting a thumb gusset and thumb. Skill level: intermediate.
Supplies needed: One skein Cascade 220 worsted weight yarn (or equivalent), US 6 and US 7 double-pointed needles (adjust accordingly if you are a tight or loose knitter), scrap yarn in a contrasting color, tapestry needle and stitch markers.
Pattern (written to fit the average woman's hand) and white fleece for thrums will be provided and are included in price of class.
Homework: 3" of ribbed cuff is worked before the first class. Instructions can be picked up at shop or emailed to you.

or from 6 - 8 pm
Instructor: Lynn Schense

or Wednesday, October 12 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
