The People's Climate March (http://peoplesclimate.org) - the largest climate action march in history is coming in just 2 days! When we talk about climate change we're not just talking about the environment. Superstorm Sandy showed us that it's not some faraway abstraction - it's about our homes and our everyday lives. It's about community. It's about jobs. It's about justice.

People's Climate March Rally in Times Square on July 30th

 

Climate change impacts everyone, everywhere - but its effects are not evenly felt. Communities of color, indigenous peoples, and low-income communities are at the frontlines of climate impacts. The NYC Environmental Justice Alliance is committed to working in solidarity with frontline communities and building a movement for climate justice. We are marching for a just and sustainable future.

Over 1,400 organizations have endorsed the March. The NYC Environmental Justice Alliance, as co-facilitator of the NY-NJ Host Committee, has been working with an unprecedented coalition of labor unions, environmental justice organizations, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and environmentalists.  With only 72 hours to go, we are ready for the final push!

Real change, not just talk. The March is just one day, the real work lies ahead. We are committed to building on the energy & promise of the March to effect tangible change in our communities. 

The signs of progress are already here: just one week ago, the New York City Council voted unanimously in support of a resolution (introduced by Council Member Donovan Richards) to endorse the People's Climate March. 

Today, Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and the NYC Council announced a comprehensive platform to combat climate change. We applaud the City Council for their leadership addressing climate change, their commitment to reducing the city's carbon footprint, and their unwavering support to increase the resiliency of vulnerable communities.


This is the fight of our lifetimes. We can't wait to see you at the March on Sunday, September 21st!
