COUNTY RECEIVES $1.8 MILLION FOR ROAD PROJECT
Funding will spur economic development
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (July 12, 2017) - The Board of County Commissioners would like to announce that the Appalachian Regional Commission awarded Washington County $1.8 million for the Halfway Boulevard Extension project.

The funding will be used for the first phase of the project which includes a nearly half-mile extension of Halfway Boulevard. The new roadway is essential for a planned 1.4 million square foot business park.  It is estimated that this project will create nearly 400 jobs by leveraging the $500,000 in private investment.

"This is a great public/private project to help the completion of Halfway Boulevard to Greencastle Pike," stated Rob Slocum, county administrator.

Additionally, the project will alleviate the growing traffic congestion in the area by improving connectivity between Interstate-81, Interstate-70 and existing industrial areas. Slocum noted this is "a win-win for the economy and all drivers."

The Maryland State Highway Administration will administer the project while the Federal Highway Administration will serve as the basic federal agency for the project.
