Message from Pastor Ele

Hello Gulf Coast...
June 13, 2018
… it’s that time again!
Every season has its highs and lows and our six-month alertness to the formation of hurricanes in our region is no exception. For each of us, those points on a continuum may be drastically different, particularly this year. That is no surprise following the extraordinary effects of the midsummer deluge from H-Harvey. What may be surprising, however, is that many of our neighbors, friends, family are still displaced from homes and other trusted means of support as we enter this new cycle.

We hear it often enough from recovery professionals, recovery from a crisis can be long, tedious, and arbitrary as the character of what’s “normal” changes with the day. Until that kind of uncertainty becomes part of our lived experience personally or as we participate in efforts to support others, it seems like just more words...

Upcoming in July:
Summer Roundtable: Let's Talk!
This summer we will come together during the 9:30 am Education Hour to discuss a variety of topics of concern to us as individuals and as a Covenant community.
Hurricane Season has arrived, so July is the perfect time to talk about how we can be prepared, as individuals and as a church community, in the event of a hurricane. The Synod website offers some great resources. Make sure you and your family have all the necessary supplies to be a "72 Hour Lutheran."

July 8: First we will gather to hear from the National Youth Gathering participants about their experience! (The Blood Drive is also this day all morning.)
July 15: Pastor Kathy Haueisen and Carol Flores will lead us in a discussion their book, "A Ready Hope: Effective Disaster Ministry for Congregations."
July 22 & 29 will be two weeks of activities related to preparation for disaster ministry. Stay tuned for more details.

The whole family is invited to be a part of these informal sessions!
