The weather is downright gorgeous and it's so much fun to watch all the students prepping to
Beat Bama
! We know y'all are enjoying the cooler weather and hope we don't transition too quickly to blistering cold.
November is always a great time to reflect on gratitude and we are incredibly grateful for each of you. We truly value parental involvement and studies continue to show a positive correlation between parental involvement and student success. If you are ever on the fence about a certain situation, please give our office a call and we can work together to "figure it out". We have such a vast array of resources here to help you and your student; let us help, please.
Advising and Registration for spring classes is well under way. All students should have met with their advisors by now to pick out a curriculum for the spring. Please make sure your student's account is paid up to date. A HOLD on an account will slow down registration and we know your students are anxious to make a spring schedule.
Don't forget, registration for Bulldog Family Weekend is
NOW OPEN
. Please make plans to join us February 23-25, 2018 as the Office of Parent Services hosts a True Maroon Family experience at Mississippi State University. Come find out why your student loves being a part of the Bulldog family! To register, visit:
parents.msstate.edu/familyweekend
The cost is set at $30 per person ($42 with a commemorative t-shirt) and will tentatively include the following: a Welcome Reception Friday night for parents, a pass to the men's basketball game on Saturday against South Carolina, and breakfast Sunday for parents and student. You may want to go ahead and register and book lodging early as hotels tend to fill up quickly around Starkville.
Please do not hesitate to call or email us with any questions or concerns. And we always welcome suggestions on how we can better support our parents. Have an idea? Share it, please!

As the semester is wrapping up, the Center for Student Success wants to ensure your student has a plan for the end of the semester. If your student is a freshman, be sure they contact their freshman year navigator if they need help creating a plan.
Navigators are ready for the challenge of helping any student in any situation. Additionally, we encourage all students to dig in deep in order to properly prepare for the last tests, projects, and finals of the semester. Utilize The Writing Center for those tough papers or the Math Domain to help you with that last college algebra test. Above all, just ask for help. We have plenty to offer.
- Go to SI (Supplemental Instruction)!
- Go to Tutoring!
- Create a study plan and stick to it!

We are coming to the end of another great semester at MSU. Throughout this semester the MSU PD has had the opportunity to remodel our dispatch center to provide more space for the dispatchers and new/improved equipment. We would like to say THANKS to all faculty, staff, students, and parents for having patience with us during the improvements.
We been working diligently to create a stronger bond with the MSU community. This goal was achieved by us partnering with many departments on campus hosting events, making students more aware of the negative effects of alcohol/ prescription drug abuse, and providing self- defense classes to students.
The holiday season is approaching so be mindful of the following:
- Make sure you lock your vehicles.
- Don’t leave valuables visible inside your vehicle.
- If you have to venture into a low lighting parking lot be aware of your surroundings.
Lastly, we would like to say
CONGRATULATIONS
to those students graduating this December and offer best wishes for future endeavors.

HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE REMINDERS
|
|
It has been a great fall semester in the Department of Housing & Residence Life with exciting programs, valuable educational and awareness events, and thriving community in all of our residence halls! As we quickly approaching holidays, below is important information for students regarding residence halls closing for the break:
- Students need to be out of their rooms 24 hours after their last exam.
- Students do not need to move out all of their belongings; just what they need/want to take with them for the break. They will not be able to access their residence hall during the break.
- Students are required to clean out, defrost, and unplug their refrigerators for the entirety of the break.
- If students would like to request a new roommate, they can:
- Discuss move with their RA/RD
- Visit the housing office in Dogwood Hall to speak with the assignments staff
(Housing staff will see if they can coordinate a room or a roommate change (depending on availability).
- An attempt will be made to complete all room changes prior to students leaving for the break.
- In order to create an adequate study space, all residence halls will implement quiet hours 24 hours a day beginning Thursday, December 1 through the conclusion of exams.
- Students can begin moving back in their residence hall room for the spring semester on Thursday, January 4 at 2:00PM.
RSVP (Renewal Selection Verification Process)
RSVP
takes place each spring semester (January/February) and allows current residents an opportunity to apply to renew their housing contracts for the next academic year (2017-2018). Additional information will be available in the next few weeks. Please stay tuned to
housing.msstate.edu
for current updates. Emails and reminders will also be sent to your student regarding this process via their MSU Bully Mail account.

It’s that time of year, Bulldogs! The sweet, delicious smell of Thanksgiving is in the air, and MSU Dining has three different Thanksgiving events we’re cooking up for our students and campus community.
We’re kicking it off with a Thanksgiving Lunch at the RFoC at Templeton on Thursday, November 16. The Fresh Food Company will offer Thanksgiving Lunch as well on Tuesday, November 21. The Marketplace at Perry will round out the events with a Thanksgiving Buffet from 11:00am to 6:30pm on Thanksgiving Day before the Egg Bowl. All menus will include turkey, dressing, and all the fixings; we’d be delighted for you to join us at any or all of these delicious Thanksgiving meals.
Don’t want to leave your tailgate tent before the game? Contact MSU Catering to get your Thanksgiving Meal Catered for you! View options and order your Thanksgiving Package online at
msucatering.com
, or call our Catering Department at 662-325-3663.
In addition to the events listed above,
The Marketplace at Perry
dining hall will be open throughout Thanksgiving Break for those students who will not be traveling. If the family is in town, we invite you to dine with us; everyone is welcome! Your student can treat you by using their Flex Dollars, or you can pay out of pocket with cash, credit, or debit. Other campus restaurants will be open as well; visit
msstatedining.com
for a complete list of Hours of Operation throughout Thanksgiving Break.
If your student missed out on a Meal Plan for the Fall semester, they still have the opportunity to sign up for a Meal Plan for the Spring semester. Meal Plans provide convenience, flexibility, quality, value, and healthy & sustainable options. If your student has dietary restrictions or food allergies, our Registered Dietitian and Food Service Directors will work one-on-one with your student to ensure they have plenty to eat during their time with us.
With a Meal Plan, students don’t have to worry about carrying cash or credit cards; it’s all loaded on their Student ID. Continuing this year, Flex Dollars are redeemable at student concession stands at Davis Wade Stadium, Humphrey Coliseum, Nusz Park, and Dudy-Noble Field. Studentscan view their remaining Meal Plan balance on MyState under the Banner tab. (Parents, check in the Parent Portal for balances.) After clicking the tab, you will be able to see the “View Your Meal Plan” link under Account Information. It’s a great way for keeping track of how many Block Meals and Flex Dollars your student has used and if it’s time to add more Flex Dollars.
February 10 will be the last day to charge to the Student Account, so be on the lookout NEXT WEEK for the launch of our Spring Meal Plan Promotion! Students who sign-up for, or upgrade, their Meal Plan during the promotional time frame will receive an awesome deal you don’t want to miss; details coming soon. Visit
msstatedining.com
or follow our social media channels listed below to hear it first and stay in the know. Terms and conditions do apply.

PROGRAMS AT THE SANDERSON
|
|
The Bulldog X program at the Sanderson Center offers a wide variety of free group exercise classes for all students. The program includes 25 certified instructors and the classes are very popular. Some of the all-time favorite classes include Yoga, Hip Hop, Barre and Cycle.
This semester, we have added some new classes to appeal to an even wider audience. We have introduced ‘The Box” - a kickboxing studio - and have begun offering kickboxing classes that involve high-intensity intervals mixed with learning the different kicks and punches associated with boxing. We provide boxing gloves and straps for participants and utilize boxing bags in order to create a great, effective workout experience. We have introduced ‘ xpress' classes, giving participants a complete workout in just 30 minutes. Many of our instructors have been working hard to become trained and certified in new formats so that we can continue to offer new classes to MSU students in the coming semesters. We are excited to finish out the semester strong and we are looking forward to another one filled with new classes.

How much does your student owe?
Have your student go to
nslds.ed.gov
National Student Loan Data System and sign-in with their FSA ID & password to find out. This is the password and ID they used for the FAFSA.
When do they need to repay?
After they graduate or drop below 6 hours, they will need to begin to make payments following their grace period. Grace periods run for 6 months on Direct Student Loans.
Is there any way to reduce the amount they owe while still a student?
They can begin making interest payments now to reduce what they owe after they leave school. To make a payment, they can contact their loan servicer or call 1-800-433-3243 to find out how.

Rental Textbooks
Did your student rent textbooks from Barnes & Noble?
The last day to return rental textbooks is Friday, December 8. Encourage your student to avoid replacement fees by returning rental textbooks by 7pm on this day. If your student is unsure as to whether or not a book is a rental, tell him/her to come by the bookstore and check before selling back any textbooks.
Bookstore Tip - Avoid the Line and Shop Online
Remember to check out the book list for Spring 2017 classes. Your student can place an order for books as soon as they register for classes. Remember that used and rentals are hot commodities - pre-order to save the most money. All book orders submitted by January 3 will be available for pick-up by January 6. Also, don't forget we not only price match all of our local competitors, but also
Amazon.com
and
BN.com
on in-stock items shipped and sold by them. Please contact the bookstore at

or 662-325-8361 for more details.

There is still a bit of confusion this late in the semester about packages being delivered. As a reminder, we have plenty of PO Boxes for students that would like to receive mail and packages on campus.
To obtain a P.O. Box, a student must complete an application (applications are available at the MSU Post Office) and turn it in to USPS staff. Two forms of identification are required to apply.
Students who do not have a P.O. Box will not be able to receive mail via USPS while living on campus
. For more information, please call us at 662-325-5772.
