Craft Spirits Steal Craft Beer's Thunder
In a new report, UBS Securities said that the craft beer trend seems to have leveled off but the craft theme is picking up in spirits. "The percentage of consumers that enjoy (spirits) brand experimentation and that view craft brands as cool has grown by 8 to 13 percentage points in the past two years," UBS said. (Forbes)
One Eight to Release First 100 Percent Made-in-DC Bourbon
Several DC distilleries currently sell bourbon, but none of that brown liquor is 100-percent local. But now, a bourbon that’s completely distilled, aged, and bottled in the District is finally here.  One Eight Distilling  will release its Rock Creek Bourbon on Sept. 16. It’s the first (legally produced) DC bourbon since pre-Prohibition. The Ivy City distillery also released the first completely made-in-DC  rye whiskey , aged 18 to 20 months, last October. Georgia's Law Enabling Distillers to Sell On-Site Takes Effect
To hear it from Georgia's brewery and distillery operators, it has been a long, but now fruitful, road to get here. A "game-changing piece of legislation," says Jim Chasteen, CEO and co-founder of ASW Distillery in Atlanta, of the new state law now in effect as of Sept. 1. Governor Nathan Deal earlier this year signed Senate Bill 85. No longer does a manufacturer have to only sell its product to a wholesaler, who would then in turn sell to retailers. Now, Chasteen's business, and other distillers and breweries, can sell direct to their customers at their site. (WSB Radio)
