Inscription from the back of the statue:
Guru Padmasambhava
Dedicated to the Longevity of Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche
Head Lama of the Tibetan Nyingma Mediation Center
The Buddha predicted that eight years after his Parinirvana would come a second Buddha, one greater than himself, who would present the Mantrayana, the Great Vehicle that directly reveals the liberating power of Dharma. Born in the northwestern land of Oddiyana, from a lotus that arose from the depths of Lake Dhanakosha, Padmasambhava brought Buddhism to the land of snows and joined with the Abbot Shantaraksita and King Trisong Detsen to establish the Dharma in Tibet. The work of these three: Guru, Abbot, and King, laid the foundation for the Nyingma tradition.
Tarthang Tulku Rinpoche, Kunga Gellek, came to Northwestern California early in 1969, where Rinpoche has worked ever since to open a mandala of the Dharma and convey the blessings of the Nyingma lineage to the West.
