Crime fighting wins a standing ovation this year

This year's "CrimeStoppers Night At The Theatre" event was the organization's most successful to date. We sold out the main-stage theatre at Playhouse On The Square for a showing of the legendary musical

Kiss Me Kate.

CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby County sponsors a  show each year at Playhouse. We get the house for one night (347 seats) and sell tickets as a fund-raiser. Sponsors - this year they included Valero, Georgia Pacific and Dillard Door and Security - help us defer the costs of a great dinner and show.

And many supporters buy tickets so that a police officer and guest can attend. Some of these special guests have never seen live theater before. The event helps two nonprofits, and is a great boost to Memphis's men and women in blue.

Next May we will be a sponsor of Memphis, The Musical. Tickets aren't available yet, but it is possible to make a donation now to send a police officer and guest: (scroll down).

Private donations can lead
to special rewards for tips

Periodically, extra awards are posted through CrimeStoppers by families, businesses or other groups to help generate citizen tips that may help solve a particular crime. These rewards enhance what CrimeStoppers can normally pay - up to $1,000.

Once the funds are received, CrimeStoppers places them in a separate account to be paid if and when law enforcement receives information leading to an arrest. Three such special awards are currently in place.

     The three are:

$4,000 offered. To anyone with information that can lead to the charging of a suspect in the death of Michael Morgan, who was found February 21, 2015 in the driveway at 5599 Apple Blossom, dying of a gunshot wound. The victim was shot with his own handgun following an argument.

$10,000 offered. For tips leading to the ID and charging of a suspect in the Feb. 24, 2015 robbery of the First South Financial Credit Union Bank at 7166 Winchester. The man, described as a six-foot-one black male wearing a black hooded coat and a devil's face mask, produced a gray or silver revolver, forced customers to the floor, and received currency from a teller before fleeing eastbound on foot.

$11,000 offered. For tips leading to the ID and charging of suspects in the home invasion robbery and murders of Anthony Conte and Robert Schmidt on July 26, 2012 at 65 East Yates.

CrimeStoppers has moved into new offices on the fourth floor of the Urban Child Institute.
